If you fail to bow to trump, he will use the power of the federal government to attack you. POSABC suspends Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show indefinitely over his remarks about Charlie Kirk’s death
This action was done by Brandon Carr (Secretary of the FCC - appointed by Donald Trump).
What makes this action even worse is that Carr has been a strong proponent of Free Speech in the past, and here he goes and attacks Free Speech.
Here are Carr's comments in the past about Free Speech
In 2019 he said: "Should the government censor speech it doesn't like? Of course not. The FCC does not have a roving mandate to police speech in the name of the 'public interest'".
In 2023 he said: "Free speech is the counterweight—it is the check on government control. That is why censorship is the authoritarian’s dream".
In 2024 he said: “A lot of social media companies have embraced, or re-embraced, the idea of free speech online, I think Elon Musk and X had a great deal to do with that. I was pleased to see Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook join him, but clearly there’s more we can do.”
Now and after this suspension of Kimmel was done, this was Carr's comment" "Local broadcasters have an obligation to serve the public interest. While this may be an unprecedented decision, it is important for broadcasters to push back on Disney programming that they determine falls short of community values. I hope that other broadcasters follow Nexstar's lead."
This OP is not about Kimmel himself. I never was a fan of Kimmel as I am against all extremes and Kimmel was all about Trump every show. Too much (in my opinion). Nonetheless, first was Steven Colbert and now Jimmy Kimmel and who is next?
Here is the comment from the ACLU after this event:
This OP is about Free Speech, which is a right given to us by the Constitution and one we have strongly defended throughout the lifetime of our country. Now, that Free Speech is being attacked and is losing the battle.
I think this is wrong.
TRANSLATION: "IF I CAN'T PERFORM MY DAILY CONSTITUTIONAL STANDING UP IS A WORKOUT IN ITSELF"Yes, they come in the protein shakes I use before lifting weights.
I am not the one who posts stupid after stupid after stupid posts and makes light of people being hurt or demeaned. Ignoring you now, bye-bye idiot.Takes one to know one.
Smells like a Magat, huh?Takes one to know one.
Says the FAGAT who stinks up the Forum daily. You are of a failed ideology, inferior to MAGA.Smells like a Magat, huh?
Free speech has been under attack for the last 200 plus years and it is not the worst, you need to quit lying and exaggerating, it is pathetic how dishonest you are.You may be right but Trump is taking it to a new level
Constitutionalists reaffirmed the right to speak truth to power in the media in the face of statist coercion, but the authoritarian suppression is being tried elsewhere:I dont care about cancel culture. I only care about free speech. I dont care if you get fired for saying something vile or something righteous. I only care if the government is responsible for it or not.
Deporting filthy Terrorists is his Job. There is no such thing as a "Palestinian". No such Race. No such PLACE. Except by Imperialist Edict--Roman and British. Try reading some History--Constitutionalists reaffirmed the right to speak truth to power in the media in the face of statist coercion, but the authoritarian suppression is being tried elsewhere:
A federal judge ruled Tuesday that the Trump administration’s effort to deport pro-Palestinian academics is a deliberate attack on free speech meant to “strike fear” into non-citizen students and chill campus protests...“The effect of these targeted deportation proceedings continues unconstitutionally to chill freedom of speech to this day,” U.S. District Judge William Young concluded, in a scathing, 161-page opinion that he described as the most crucial he’s delivered in his 30 years on the bench.Young’s assessment of Trump himself, condemning him as a bully who “ignores everything,” engages in “hollow bragging” and uses his power and gifts of communication to strip away constitutional rights.“[Trump]’s palpable misunderstanding that the government simply cannot seek retribution for speech he disdains poses a great threat to Americans’ freedom of speech,” Young wrote, describing the courts as the most crucial bulwark to this threat...Expect the thin-skinned totalitarian's assault upon every American's Constitutional rights to persist.
