He was pushing an ideology. That ideology was not consistent.
For example he'd say he was in favor of free speech, but then he'd be against gay people, against black people, against women.
He was pushing for society to become more conservative, a type of conservative that tells people to conform or else.
That's hurting people and it will hurt people in the future.
I'd not heard of this dude before he got killed.
However my work colleague sounds like a less knowledgeable version of Kirk. He pumped the same ideas. This is what he "believed", and if you get enough people to believe that black people are inferior and need DEI in order to get them jobs, and if they are working they won't be qualified, and that women should be "Kinder, Küche, Kirche" and not be independent people, then yes, he's hurting people.
