Let's call a truce

Even if their behavior doesn’t change, which I don't think is always the case, the deeper question remains. Does that invalidate the value of your actions?
Of course not. I never argued to the contrary.
I don’t think we should act with strength and integrity because it guarantees results. We should act that way because it's who we are. If someone lies about you, mocks your restraint, or sees kindness as weakness, let them. Their misreading doesn’t lessen the reality. Their behavior is a mirror of them, not you.
Ok. That’s cool. I also don’t argue against that.
Even if the world never rewards your discipline, your self-respect will. If our principles only hold when they yield outcomes, they’re not really principles; they’re transactions. So yes, their cruelty might persist, but we aren’t who we are to change them. We’re who we are to stay whole. No?
I don’t get why you feel the need to lecture anyone on this matter. All I did was give a word of caution to a person who seems like a man with a good spirit. Don’t expect to have anything you post taken seriously by those folks nuts not a skill set they often possess.
Let them fail the test of character. You weren’t acting for their approval. You were acting from your own integrity.
Again. That has nothing to do with my word of caution regarding lowering expectations.

I wasn’t trying to lecture, just riffing on what you said because it resonated. You’re right that expectations matter, especially in toxic spaces. I just think there’s power in acting from principle even when no one else gets it.

Stop pretending that you have the slightest ability to discuss such matters until you (someday) step up and post an intelligent post.
Nothing is intelligent to yous that is why Daving is so popular.

I apologize in that case.

I happen to agree with that.

One of the reasons you LWNJs are so disliked is that you pompously assume you know what other people think and/or will regret. Always doomsaying and chicken-little-ing.

No, I'm just pointing out the obvious.

Temple (or as I call him, Twinkie) is a supposedly gay man who can't hold down a job due to mental health issues. Or at least that is what he claims here. If Republicans ever got their way on everything, his life would suck more than it already does.

Maybe he believes the health of his country is more important than his own self interests?

You're just projecting your own fears onto people who are much more courageous than you, gump.

I joined the Army.

Twinkie never gets off the couch.

Maybe he believes the health of his country is more important than his own self interests?

Not sure how the country would be healthy if we don't take care of people.

Um your "tact" isn't your problem.

Your problem is your hypocrisy.

YOu wouldn't want to live in the world you are trying to create.

You've done very little with your life, but you want to lecture people who've actually accomplished things.
I see.

But I'm not going to lend any credence to your personal attacks. You're free to make them but I'm free not to acknowledge them.

Now if you want to debate me on the issues, I'm all for it.

You have a lot of venom.

Um, okay. Not that you are really capable of debate, just repeating what you hear on Hate Radio like you had an original idea.

Why is the OP blank?

15th post
No, just a low tolerance for stupidity.
I'm honestly disappointed by the tone you decided to take in this thread. The original post was clearly made in good faith. It took self-awareness, vulnerability, and no small amount of courage to extend that kind of olive branch publicly. That should count for something, even if you disagree with the person’s politics or personality.

Instead, your response has been personal, vitriolic, and frankly, cruel. It’s one thing to argue passionately over issues; it’s another to lash out in ways that seem designed to hurt someone who’s already acknowledged their flaws and made an effort to grow. Why kick someone when they’re trying to stand up straighter? You don't have to accept the truce, but you also don't have to spit on the hand that offered it.

That one has ADS.
