Take Prostitution. In Illinois, it's a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $ 2,500 or less than a year in prison. Very few people go to jail for it. Most pay the fine and are done with it. (There are aggrevating factors that make it worse, like doing it near a school or involving underaged people).

Unless the hooker is making a nuisance of herself and is out where people can see her, the police don't bother, which is why so many escort services, massage parlors, strip clubs, etc. act with impunity.

Most of the dangers of prostitution are, in fact, linked to its illegality. Got raped by a john? Not going to the cops. Got beaten up by your pimp who took all your money? Still not going to the cops.

Now, let's say you get your wet dream and get a national abortion ban.

Are you really going to send a woman to prison for life because she had an abortion in the first trimester, because she was too poor to have a baby, and couldn't afford health care?

So essentially, you've decreased the risk and increased the reward for shady characters willing to do illegal abortions in less than sterile conditions.
