Here's a good video from the economist on Youtube. Usually I don't like posts that force you to watch a video, but I think this is a good one.

Social mobility in the US is low.

Here's a list based on the Global Social Mobility Index.

The US is 27th on the list.

This video says that education is a big problem in social mobility in the US. The way schools are funded, the way colleges accept students and the like is all a problem.

Then they point to current social unrest being caused by this.

Clearly Trump supporters are unhappy with how the US is. Trump's slogan says it all. People think the US isn't "great" any more and they want to change this. How do they want to change it? Well, I doubt they even think about this as they're more likely to be people who haven't had an education that has prepared them to think about this. They know something's wrong, someone comes along and says he'll change it, they want to believe.

Same with Sander's supporters. People who want Socialism or socialism or Communism or something they don't even know. They just know they want change and they'll vote for that change without really knowing what they're voting for. These people are, again, not necessarily well educated, or even if they are they don't see the bigger picture.

Both sides here know there's a problem. The problems are there, but people aren't aware of what they are. They're pushing for change, any change really, no matter how dangerous or useless or pointless it might be.

My personal view is the electoral system keeps these barriers up. The current way of electing people is mostly about negative voting. People are voting AGAINST something because people like Sanders can't get to be the presidential candidate. Trump, against all odds, managed to get the candidacy and win the election which is probably why he has such fervent supporters.

But Trump didn't change anything and won't change anything for the better. He didn't identify the problems and put in place decades long plans to bring about a change in the way people vote, in the way people get educated, in the way people get selected for universities.

Unfortunately this report only started in 2020. So we can't look back and see the changes. But clearly it has changed. Post WW2 there was huge social mobility. Now it has petrified to a huge extent and this is causing problems no one wants to deal with.

get a trade.

Well a new tat seldom speaks to social mobility....Maybe that money should have been better spent on a night class to help improve their lot in life.

The few occasions I find myself among "the great unwashed" I can't help but notice the number of "round" women walking around looking like some kind of retarded billboard.

get a trade.

I've got a friend who got his GED at age 25. At age 38 he now owns one of the largest tree seervice companies in the southeast. After storms rolled through the New Orleans area a few years back, his number was the one people called, so much to the point that he was over there for several months, making a ridiculous amount of money.

A college education will certainly get you into job markets that a high school diploma won't, but the most financially successful people I know didn't go to college...

Sigh, I'm struggling how you could have understood these issues so badly.
well, Biden and greedy corrupt Democrats have printed $trillion$ of dollars that caused an inflation crisis and they loaded $trillions$ of debt onto the backs of the backs of the taxpayers, but you are blinded by your hate, so u r struggling to understand.

why didn't the $trillion$ of dollars printed by Trump and the greedy corrupt Repubs have any impact on inflation?

Really? Did they print to many dollars that there's inflation in the UK, EU, all over? Was that all Biden? Really?

Inflation is happening around the world.

The US is 100th in the world for inflation, number 1 being the highest at 285%.

Here's the BBC talking about it from a UK point of view
1) energy prices. It still impacts the US because energy companies are private companies, fuel prices go up

Us energy prices going up.

2) Goods prices going up due to the pandemic, problems with getting things from China etc.

3) Shipping costs. Same for everyone.

4) rising wages. Because of so many jobs in the US, people were quitting and moving up the pay scale. If the person at the bottom gets paid 10% more, then the cost of producing, serving, whatever it is they do, rises by 10% or more. Everyone's earning more, things cost more, inflation RISES because everyone else is having to adjust their wages, their costs, their everything.

5) Climate impact. Nothing to do with man made global warming, but weather is getting hotter and more erratic, winter storms in Texas etc etc and it impacted things.

But then I can look at the causes of why inflation is rising without some entertainer telling me without any evidence whatsoever and me believing it.

Some would not consider having more goods and services than they used to have as "struggling".

Struggling is a relative thing.

This doesn't mean that people aren't stressed about their situation, struggling to make ends meet. People have to pay rent, they need electricity and gas, things to live a daily life where work isn't a field out the back, but 30 minutes by car.

And how many questions are you not asking?

All it seems you see is "democrats" "bad" and that's it.

You'll notice that Trump's 2020 has the highest deficit. 2021 also has a high deficit. Why?
Why did two presidents, from two different parties end up with huge deficits? Er... coronavirus.

By 2022 it's back to normal.

But you just want to come on here with your "democrats bad"

People needing to pay rent, electricity and gas, and have things to live a daily life where work isn't a field out the back, but 30 minutes by car, tend to be too busy for social unrest.
