Seems the writer of the opinion piece is basically saying that despite controlling only the House, it is the Democrats in charge of things. I'm not buying most of that as I don't see the job of being president as being totally over Trump's head.

One thing about opinion pieces that interests me are the mini-biography that are usually linked to the author's name. This Kurt Schlichter guy has some decent credentials in regards to the military and foreign affairs. Sometimes with others it makes me wonder where they dig up these guys?

These are stock market numbers, jobs creation numbers, and the increasing gap between rich and poor, which is accelerating under Donald Trump. You believe that Trump's economy is better because Trump tells you so. The actual numbers being distorted and Republicans are lying, especially about Reagan.

Look at the numbers. The charts and the graphs. Trump's "booming economy" you speak of began in late 2009 and continued unabated. Obama's stock market was up 65% by year three, and by year 8, it had tripled. 6 straight years with 200,000 or more jobs created. That ended in Trump's first year in office. Every chart, every graph, on every sector of the economy shows it dropping off the cliff in 2008, and beginning a growth line in late 2009, that continued unabated until January 2020. In fact, since Trump was inaugurated, the stock market, employment and GDP have all grown at a slower rate than under Obama, and that shows on the charts too.

Somebody's really drunk that Republican cool aid. You're just parrotting FOX News lies. By every measure, Trump's "boom" doesn't measure up to Obama's "worst recovery ever". These aren't lies. These are stock market numbers, jobs creation numbers, and the increasing gap between rich and poor, which is accelerating under Donald Trump. You believe that Trump's economy is better because Trump tells you so. The actual numbers being distorted and Republicans are lying, especially about Reagan.

Look at the numbers. The charts and the graphs. Trump's "booming economy" you speak of began in late 2009 and continued unabated. Obama's stock market was up 65% by year three, and by year 8, it had tripled. 6 straight years with 200,000 or more jobs created. That ended in Trump's first year in office. Every chart, every graph, on every sector of the economy shows it dropping off the cliff in 2008, and beginning a growth line in late 2009, that continued unabated until January 2020. In fact, since Trump was inaugurated, the stock market, employment and GDP have all grown at a slower rate than under Obama, and that shows on the charts too.

There was no "Reagan Boom", it's an illusion, created by the tax cut and massive deficit spending in the defense sector. Cut and spend is the Republican mantra. Like your neighbour taking out big mortgage, putting an addition on the house, buying a new car, new furniture. It looks like he's doing well, but then there was Black Monday, the largest stock market crash since 1929, and 6% unemployment. St. Ronnie was forced to raise taxes and admit that trickle down didn't work. Reagan's job creation numbers were lower than both 'Clinton and Obama. Food stamp useage and poverty increased under Reagan, as did personal debt.

The only economic measure that Reagan wins versus Clinton and Obama, is worker wages. That's because the union movement hadn't been completely destroyed, but Reagan's tax and labour laws favouring employers and crushing unions did their work over the next 40 years, so that wages have stagnated for 40 years.

You may have allowed Republicans to convince you that it's all the Democrats' fault, but from where I'm sitting, the guy who is driving the car when it crashes is responsible for the crash, and the Democrats are the tow truck drivers who have to pull the wreck out of the ditch, fix it up and get it back on the road again.
