I'm amused by your "rendition" of the White House's version of events, Boo. You neglected to address that the six men who left the Annex and went to the Consulate did so on their own after not receiving orders from Washington to do so despite repeated requests.
If the President ordered "all available DOD assets" to respond then why were they using the excuse a week later that they couldn't investigate the scene at the Consulate with the FBI because they didn't have security assets to secure it? Why did they order the rapid response team to stand down at the airbase they were at in Italy ready to take off and head to Libya? Why didn't they dispatch some sort of air support to the area that could have helped repel the attack on the Annex hours after the first attack on the Consulate?
All Romney did was point out the truth about Benghazi...that the Obama State Department dropped the ball on security BEFORE the attack...that the Obama White House dropped the ball in it's response once the attack took place...and that both lied to the American people about what took place there when they blamed the attack on a protest over a You Tube video that escalated.
The 6 men from the Annex and more than two dozen Libyan Militia drove the attackers off and searched the consulate before Panetta and Dempsey met with the President. So of course there were no orders from Washington.
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Joint Chiefs Chairman Martin Dempsey testified that is what he did. Are you claiming they lied?
This isn't about what the FBI did a week later, this is what the president and his commanders did in response to the attacks.
As I pointed out earlier no national politician has every sided against the President when we were attacked in a foreign land. Until 2012. We'll all so lucky that chump didn't win..........
"An urgent request from CIA personnel to be allowed to go to the aid of the U.S. Consulate in Libya during the Sept. 11 attack was denied by U.S. officials, despite the fact that the team, which included at least one Navy SEAL, was only one mile away.
The officials twice told CIA officers to “stand down” rather than help the Americans when shots were heard in Benghazi.
Fox News reports that sources on the ground said that former Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods was part of a small team at a CIA annex near the consulate where Ambassador Chris Stevens and his team came under attack.
Stevens and three other Americans died in the attack.
When Woods and others heard the shots fired about 9:40 p.m., Fox reports, they notified their supervisors at the annex and requested permission to head to the consulate to help.
But the supervisors told them to "stand down," sources familiar with the exchange told Fox. Moments later, they were told the same.
Woods and at least two others, however, ignored the orders and moved toward the consulate, which by then was engulfed in flames, Fox reports.
Shots were exchanged and the rescue team from the CIA annex evacuated those who remained at the consulate, including the body of Sean Smith, the Foreign Service Information Management Officer who had been killed in the initial attack.
