Kremlin says Russia is open to dialogue with Trump on Ukraine

Dummy, which part of NO-NATO law passed in Ukraine while it was looking to join EU do you not get?

Ukraine had no interest in NATO when Russians invaded and it was the invasion itself that pushed them to seek security guarantees in a defensive alliance.

So, explain the 5 NATO members that are not in the EU.
How more disingenuous and pathetic can you be? Albania, one of those five, applied for EU membership immediately after joining NATO.

On April 24, 2009, Albania submitted its application for EU membership.

In 2012, the European Commission recommended that Albania be granted candidate status.

In June 2014, Albania was granted candidate status.

In July 2022, membership negotiations between Albania and the EU opened.

Albania's application was based on several factors, including:

  • Albania's alignment with the EU's foreign and security policy
  • Albania's high level of public support for EU accession
  • Albania's commitment to reforming its public administration and judiciary
  • Albania's efforts to combat organized crime and corruption
  • Albania's commitment to protecting human rights
The problem with Albania is the same problem that Turkey had when applying for EU membership. Can you guess? Go ahead guess............did you figure it out yet? They're a Muslim-majority country. Nonetheless, they thought like practically all of the nations in Eastern Europe that have joined NATO, that they would somehow fast-track their entrance into the EU.

The other countries are completely irrelevant to the issue of NATO in post-Soviet Bloc countries. If the UK and Norway wanted EU membership they would have it. Iceland like Norway, doesn't want EU membership..etc. You're just being dishonest and silly in your objections. The point is that in Eastern Europe, it was perceived that if they joined NATO, that would more quickly open the door to EU membership, and anyone with two brain cells can see that was the motivation behind joining NATO. If you're going to place your country on a Russian nuke-target list, you better get something good out of it, and they figured being part of the EU was worth it despite risking the wrath of Moscow.

.Misk agreements were signed AFTER annexation of Crimea and invasion of eastern Ukraine.
HUH?

Crimea has been an Autonomous Independent Republic since 1921 - it is populated by over 95% Ethnic Russians.

Eastern Ukraine - the region East of the Dnipro River, i.e. Novorossiya or New Russia, is also an Independent Autonomous Republic composed of Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) - Both areas are populated by over 95% Etnic Russians

None of what you posted is true.

1. The West gave the Ukraine security assurances and Russia promised not to invade when the Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons, so the Ukraine had no need to join NATO. NATO had sworn to protect them if Russia invade.

2. Viktor Yanukovych, the then President of the Ukraine, was a corrupt Russian plant. Of course he had no interest in joining NATO. It was after Yanukovych returned to Moscow and Zelensky was elected President that the Ukraine definitively asked for NATO membership and EU membership.

You can't rewrite that history any more than you can claim that FSU nations didn't fear Putin's open threats to rebuild the Russian Empire. That their only reasons for joining the EU were economic and they had nothing to fear from a broken Russia. Georgia would say otherwise.

You don’t understand the topic too well.

1. Budapest memorandum was not a defensive alliance agreement and gave no specifics on what defense assistance would be in case Ukraine got attacked.

NATO members however are covered by article 5 of its charter - attack one is an attack on all.

2 Yankovich was co-erced by Russia eventually, but he was initially committed to EU integration path in his early presidency and fought for it even as he was codifying (popular) neutrality commitment for Ukraine.

3 Zelenskyy was not elected until 2019, 5 years after Yanukovich ran off to Russia while Crimea was being annexed.

It is a disgrace to have a President who is such an obvious buffoon.
I'd feel you maybe if Biden was a genius but he was a demented idiot. So was Kamala, not yet demented but an idiot nonetheless. WTF?

Russia lost 1,000,000 men and Ukraine lost 700,000 men...and counting.

Trump said that Russia has a bigger population so they can wear down the Ukrainians over time, a "war of attrition" by any other name.

It loks like oth sides are now ready for an "off-ramp". Let's hope so.

A war of attrition when your economy is collapsing usually doesn't work out very well.

Bullshit................link?

And it wasn't a deal guaranteeing US intervention.

It was a deal that ensured that the the USA, the UK, and Russia would respect the borders of the Ukraine which meant that the Ukraine would not be invaded by Russia. Are you seriously suggesting that "respecting the borders" was just some nebulous notion, and that the signatory nations would simply use harsh language if Russia invaded???

Just because there was no line by line consequences for those who broke the treaty doesn't mean that the UK and the USA have no obligation to assist in the defense of the Ukraine. There is no obligation to put boots on the ground, but there is an obligation to stop the Russian invasion, and to help rebuild the Ukraine when its over.

It's also in the best interests of the USA to stop Putin's expansion of his Russian Empire, given the cost to the economies and the citizens of the countries currently under his control.

Thank you for reaffirming what I said.

There is no such obligation in the Budapest Memorandum. The only assurances for Ukraine are for undefined defense assistance, there is no promise of any specific outcome.

President Vladimir Putin said Russia’s ready for talks with the US on the war in Ukraine as he offered congratulations to Donald Trump on his inauguration as president. Russia welcomed Trump’s desire to restore direct contacts and his statements on the need to prevent a third world war, he said. “We are open to dialogue with the new US administration on the Ukrainian conflict,” Putin said. “Its goal should not be a short truce, not some kind of respite for regrouping forces and rearmament with the aim of subsequently continuing the conflict, but a long-term peace based on respect for the legitimate interests of all people, all nations that live in this region.”
Putin has said repeatedly that he’s open to talks about a settlement to Russia’s nearly three-year-long war, even as he also insists he won’t give up territories that his army seized in the east and south of Ukraine since he ordered the full-scale invasion. Moreover, Putin will only make a deal if Ukraine reduces its army and refuses to join NATO altogether. Even before his inauguration, Trump said he understood the Russian president in this regard, so he would be willing to make concessions in addition to his own plan to pressure Russia to end the war.

Dialogue with the Kremlin is being blocked- frustrated by 22 GOP Senators and all Socialist Demon Rats Senators -

To them it is irrelevant that President Trump received a mandate from WE THE PEOPLE to seek a peaceful resolution of the brain dead Ukrainian Proxy War .

Dems aren't socialists. Actual socialists are 100% in favor of dialogue with Russia and ending the war in Ukraine. Don't confuse American liberals with actual socialists.
