The attacks of "crazy" and "low IQ" are made more frequently against women of colour.
AOC is well educated, and far from crazy. Her ideas are very well thought out. The right is attacking them as "crazy", misquoting and mischaracterizing what she's proposing, precisely because she's articulate and coming out with very good ideas.
She took a lot of flack for not wanting the Amazon jobs in her District and I understand exactly where she was coming from. Creating 50,000 jobs in the District is great, but it creates a whole lot of demand for housing and infrastructure, and instead of contributing to those costs, Amazon is actually getting tax breaks for locating there. The taxpayers in New York are going to have to pay for the billions of dollars of infrastructure needed to get these people back and forth to that campus on a daily basis. The roadways, public transit, and resources needed to create a small city where 50,000 people work.
Why should the working people of her District give Amazon $3 billion in tax breaks AND pay for their infrastructure. The people moving into the District will drive up the price of housing and soon the people who paid for all of this will have to move elsewhere. Amazon is the most profitable corporation in the world. They should be paying for the own infrastructure!!! The working people of New York need that money for their families. Jeff Bezos has no need of their money.
This is just wrong on every level.

Well you obviously don't know jack shit about real estate development. In order to build a building in which you expect to put 50,000 to work, over and above all of the people currently living and working withing that community now, you're going to have to have public transit to get these people to work, and home again. The infrastructure to bring the electricity, the water, and deal with the sewage from a building that large, which would be home to essentiall a new city within the District - one with 50,000 additional residents, creating demand for infrastructure and services, and instead of paying the costs for all of this infrastructure, Amazon is gettting $3 billion dollars in tax breaks, which means that they're not paying for their infrastruction.
You do know that developers are supposed to pay for the roadways, sewer hook-ups, electrical grid hookups, and city services, which in this case would include transit lines to and from the campus, not get tax breaks to avoid payment. Because the city is going to have to build all of this infrastructure to accomodate Amazon, and they're going to have to pay for it from taxes.
I spent the last 5 years of my career in Toronto working in real estate mega projects, including negotiating development agreements between builders and the municipalities for the services, roadways, and infrastructure needed for mega projects, and those agreements include green space, road widening, increased sewage capacity for the area, and hugely importantly - the impact of the development on the surrounding system of roadways, and public transit.
You can't just plunk a 50,000 job facility down without consideration for all of these factors. Municipalities fell all over themselves offering Amazon the sun the moon and the stars to relocate to their areas and this is just a race to the bottom. The Foxcom deal was going to cost every man woman and child in Wisconsin $750 per person in tax breaks for that company to locate there.
It's insanity.
Once AGAIN --- O'bama wouldn't choose to do that, because NO normal adjusted sane man would.
You could put anybody's name in that statement, yet somehow you chose O'bama. That's what makes it a weird post. O'bama exhibits none of these wadded-up insecurities. It's a non sequitur.

I agree. I would have lobbied Missouri to give Amazon 6 billion in tax breaks...because St Louis is dying. They have the infrastructure...they WERE a city of almost a million people...now languishing at around 300,000. And THAT is what NYC has to compete with...and not just Missouri...Detroit and Cleveland would literally do anything to get Amazon to move there.
Amazon has leverage. They would be fools not to use that leverage to secure the best terms possible. If NYC doesn't want the economic growth Amazon is going to provide...someone else will happily secure it.
