Unlike many, I love your attitude and statements. You see, you do more to discredit the flawed mentality that you represent, than I could ever do. But let’s take foreign languages.
Americans, that is to say people born here, who fought in World War II put their foreign language skills to work. We all know the Windtalkers story, Apache’s who spoke their language to speed up encryption and decryption of vital messages. From hours to encode, and transmit, and then decode messages to a minute. But let’s swing around to the other theater of war, Germany.
The Americans who had been interned by idiots who like you thought that anyone who wasn’t a WASP was untrustworthy, and I am speaking of the Americans of Japanese descent, spoke Japanese. In Germany, they found that the Nazi’s were very adept at speaking English. They would issue confusing orders to units over the radios, or telephones. The Soldiers who spoke Japanese took over the radios for their units, and relayed the messages in Japanese. There were not many Germans who could speak it and the efforts to confuse and move units out of position failed. Thank God for Foreign Languages. Thank God for the good old fashioned Yankee Knowhow.
Spanish Speakers like the ones you denigrate, were in the Army with me. When we invaded Panama, they were vital for our success. They could speak with the citizenry, and learn where the Soldiers were hiding before we walked into an ambush. They could issue instructions to those Soldiers so that we did not have to kill them. Again, thank God for good old fashioned Yankee Knowhow.
Where is it written our citizens must speak only English? That is an asinine attitude, and I thank God it is not the law. The Amish speak Dutch, or a version of it anyway. Are they plotting to overthrow whatever your delusional mind says is America? How about the Eskimos? Or any of the Indian tribes that exist across our fair land? No, you are worried about brown people.
I learned Spanish as a boy. I had blond hair and blue eyes. My ancestors traveled here from Norway, and England. My Great Grandfather still spoke Norwegian.
Oftentimes when dealing with Spanish Speakers, I take the opportunity to practice my language skills. If you don’t use the skill, you tend to lose it. For example, your ability to think. I am not sure if you ever had it, but obviously you have lost it now.
Attitudes like yours, led to Pearl Harbor. Not goading the Japanese to attack. No, that was pretty much a political reality that was inevitable. No, I am talking about the lack of response by the Americans. Admiral Kimmel said it off the record. Nobody thought the little bastards could pull it off. They imagined that the Japanese were stupid, buck toothed, wearing thick glasses, and any American could whip them with one arm tied behind their backs. We learned we were into the fight for our lives. We had to dig deep, and find hidden strength to win out. Fortunately for us, they were just as racist as we were, and slower to learn.
What makes America is not English, nor any other language. What makes America is our dedication to the basics. The Constitution. The rights that are enumerated and must be defended against all who would threaten them. Right, Left, or center doesn’t matter. The constitution is what matters, not the language. Idiot.
America is not English, it is American. And American is not a language, but a shared ideal that each man is endowed by their creator with rights that shall not be infringed. In your case, that includes the right to be a jibbering jackass. You are free to your opinions, and free to speak them. But when you try to inflict them on others, that is where the majority steps in, and says no. Because they are also protected in their beliefs, and ideals.
What will save this nation, is a return to the basic truths of the Constitution and a rolling back of the excesses and abuses. What will kill it, is if attitudes like yours, where conformity and single approved thought becomes the standard. America dies on that day.
