We have had massive amounts of rain in the area this year. The ground is saturated.
A company that works as a subcontractor was out in it 2 days ago. I know the owner, and he was on the jobsite, parked about 50 yards from the trench and facing the other way. I thought all the workers were in the trucks, until I saw a hardhat in one of the trenches. It is a 5 foot trench, with a spoil pile 3 feet tall right at the edge of the trench. That makes the trench 8 feet deep. One guy was sent to put the pipe in the trench. He was in the trench on his knees connecting the pipe when I got to him. The owner had sent him into an 8 foot trench, in saturated earth, with the spoil pile too close to the trench, and in the rain. None of the safety regulations were being followed for an 8 foot excavation.

I shut the job down and pulled they guy out of the trench. I probably saved the kid's life. When I went by the site the next day, 2 sections of the trench wall had collapsed. Even if he had not been buried, and only trapped by having wet clay up to his waste, he could very easily have died in that hole. And working alone, with no observer or other worker, is simply stupid.

Spanish Speakers like the ones you denigrate, were in the Army with me. When we invaded Panama, they were vital for our success. They could speak with the citizenry, and learn where the Soldiers were hiding before we walked into an ambush. They could issue instructions to those Soldiers so that we did not have to kill them. I learned Spanish as a boy. I had blond hair and blue eyes. My ancestors traveled here from Norway, and England. My Great Grandfather still spoke Norwegian.

Oftentimes when dealing with Spanish Speakers, I take the opportunity to practice my language skills. If you don’t use the skill, you tend to lose it. For example, your ability to think. I am not sure if you ever had it, but obviously you have lost it now.

Nonsense. Low test scores? Americans of Chinese descent speak Chinese. If we went solely off of test scores UCLA wouldn’t have anything but Asians in attendance.



Do you notice how friendly they are towards the white guy? He is speaking their language and they love him for it. They are American. He is American. What bothers you is that he is not your idea of American. The one the rest of the world calls Ugly American.
