Obama was the drone President in more ways than one. Escalating existing wars like Afghanistan and Iraq plus getting us into Syria, Libya, and elsewhere. He was the classic passive/aggressive STOOGE. A mere pawn of the Globalists and MIC.
LBJ gave the MIC their war in Vietnam. It was totally fought the wrong way, but at least sent a message to the USSR and China that we'd stand up to Communism. Yes, it should have been carried out differently. However, it is easy to Monday morning quarterback these things.
I agree it is easy to âMonday morning quarterback.â But that said, I donât think the Vietnam War could have been fought any differently, certainly not with any better result. It could only have been ended sooner.
Obama opposed the Iraq invasion in the first place, and ultimately was elected President â after the U.S. population lost its appetite for this military adventure â in large part on the strength of his original opposition. Baby Bush had already been forced to outline a withdrawal of U.S. occupation forces before he left office, and this was carried out by Obama. Like in Vietnam, the hard right Republicans obstructed and denounced, but reluctantly went along. Not the same dynamic as Kissinger & Nixon in Vietnam, but Republicans were still partisan and obstructionist and played the âtough guyâ game to the end.
From 2008, with the steady drawdown in troop levels and withdrawal of remaining U.S. soldiers from Iraqi cities, the Iranians actively discouraged Iraqi Shia attacks on U.S. and British occupiers. The messy âdemocraticâ political struggle took precedence. âCivilianâ personnel based at the U.S. Embassy and contractors still numbered in the tens of thousands. There was really no âescalationâ of the âexistingâ war under Obama in Iraq. There was only later a small increase in military advisors after the ISIS upsurge, which was reasonable in my opinion. U.S. troops never did real fighting against ISIS, except from the sky.
Of course the idiotic U.S. involvement in trying to overthrow Assad led directly to the growth of ISIS, and our support for overthrowing Qaddafi without a plan to replace him proved disasterous to Libya and to Europe too. The temporary âsurgeâ in Afghanistan and then long continuing drone war there was also a pointless endeavor. These were all Obamaâs responsibility.
