I agree. And this God for which all things are possible created reality the way it is and has been for every living creature since life began on this strange planet. People who have been dead for days do not come out of their tombs because Jesus said so. Blind men don't regain their sight because Jesus put spit and mud in their eyes covered them with his hand and then asked what they saw. The man could not see anything with his eyes. Jesus was teaching the blind man how to "see", to use his imagination in a rational way to perceive, comprehend, understand the stories in scripture where men are often compared to trees.
It either has a deeper meaning or it is bullshit. The deeper meaning is obvious to the living.

I had high hopes that people sleeping in the dust of the earth would awaken and rise from their graves after learning they have been deceived and possessed by devils for their entire lives who taught them that the fantastical stories in the Bible that amount to fairy tales were literal accounts of historical events. When I first heard the story of A&E in the second grade and a crafty talking serpent was introduced I knew it was like a fairy tale immediately. So I thought that full grown adult "believers" with a modicum of education would also be able to comprehend this simple truth and instead of claiming to "just believe" there was a magical time in the past when snakes could talk derp they would try to comprehend the hard learned lessons of the past intended to be understood by Hebrew children thousands of years ago, and by doing so realize that they support pay homage to and elected to lead this country this so called beacon of light THE EPITOME OF THAT TALKING SERPENT OF OLD cast out that devil from the lofty place he usurped through corruption brainwashing and bribery and spend the rest of their lives repenting which would make this world a much better place.

I do not consider myself a "heroic defender of the faith". I stand for the billions of people within the faith that live their lives to the best of their ability. They have enough faith in what they are taught that they understand it in simple terms - they have little need to "Dwell on the deeper meanings within the Bible" - many of them substantially off-base, akin to conspiracy theories.
The Catholic Church quite literally states, "The Mystery of Faith" during every Mass. This is humbling itself and accepting what is written in the Book of Isaiah that "God's ways are higher than mankind's ways".
Are there times when one can view certain people within Catholicism as following "statues, images, etc" much too closely?
Sure. But what that person fails to understand is that when they do that, they are praying to God or for someone whom they consider "holier than they are" for intervention. They do that because they do not feel they are "worthy" to pray to God directly - it REPRESENTS HUMILITY - not the other way around.
Why criticize people who do nothing but Revere God - whether through prayer, intervention, Communion, or works? Stating that they are condemned to death because of what they practice in good faith?
Many Catholics are far from perfect - I am one of them. But every time I've fallen off course, I have been welcomed back with open arms, respect and love. Of course there are things within the Church I may not understand or agree with -but I look at the fruits of the Church - the people and their works and I can sleep at night believing no one is condemned to death simply by practicing specific Catholic rituals. Quite the opposite, in my humble opinion.
