What Kansas Abortion Vote Means for Democrats, Republicans in the Midterms (newsweek.com)

… In the first electoral test since the Supreme Court overturned the 1973 ruling giving women a federal right to an abortion in June, more than 59 percent of people in Kansas backed upholding the state's constitutional right for women to access the procedure. In May, electoral analysis firm Split Ticket said banning abortion "is extremely unpopular among voters" and that “Republicans have far more pro-choice voters than Democrats have pro-life ones." .
/////
Republicans far outnumbered Democrats in the Kansas primary and 59% of tall those Kansas voters voted against amending Kansas's laws which currently uphold a woman's' right to seek an abortion, This indicates Even in the reddest of states, Democrats would be foolish not to make “a woman's right to choose" to be among their major election issues. It's encouraging in that it's mostly a statement on upholding rights, more than it being an abortion question.

Encouraging in that it's a definite roadblock being erected to stop the approaching fascism the ban represents.

But will it be too little too late and the extreme right agenda will still fail to respect the will of the large majority. Compromised democracies have little power to stop the onset of fascism. History should have taught us lessons on that!

After the claim an election was stolen and half the country believes it, would it be all that hard to ignore the outcome of this referendum and claim it was fixed?

And Americans still think their democracy isn't threatened??

You people act like there is no abortion restriction in Kansas. That is simply not accurate. Kansas has very specific abortion laws.

For example, Kansas prohibits abortion after 20 weeks postfertilization. After that point, only in cases of life or severely compromised physical health may an abortion be performed. Kansas also has a detailed abortion-specific informed consent requirement. Minors cannot obtain an abortion without parental consent. The Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers (TRAP) law applies to medication-induced abortions and private doctor offices in addition to abortion clinics. Kansas was also the first state to ban the barbaric dilation and evacuation procedure commonly used for second-trimester abortion.

Most people agree with these restrictions. Most people do not agree with either completely unlimited abortion until the moment of birth, or completely banning abortion without exception. Those things are on the fringe, and that's where politicians who push those issues will end up.

I'm pro-life and was glad to see the Dobbs decision overturn Roe v. Wade.

I'm happy to see some states banning abortion.

What I am not happy about is seeing the organization formerly known as the Republican Party being complete and total dicks about it. They are being vindictive, and that is a really, really stupid strategy as Kansas just proved.

No, most people don't agree with kansas's restrictions and they've sent the message. But if an election's results can be claimed to be stolen by half the country, the referendum shouldn't be too hard to ignore.

In any case, the issue decided was on rights and freedoms and quite surprisingly Americans spoke up!

Will the people's voices be ignored in the name of Trump and Trumpism?

Let us hope Republicans become an endangered species. Then America can really move forward.

I'm waiting for a stage to declare all abortion laws any abortion laws illegal. That's what needs to be done.

Bottom line, it's up to the states, whether I agree of not.
It pretty well has to be up to the states to disregard and disrespect the will of the people. The extreme right state of Kansas has spoken on behalf of the American people and no other state is going to return a lesser result than 60% in favour of upholding America's rights and freedoms.

So now the only route left to the pro-fascist element is to deny that democracy has spoken.

I highly expect that to work, as you suggest. So why would any American choose to deny the stated popular opinion that has been expressed by this referendum?

You've got it Stann, but don't forget to include 'rights and freedoms' in order to address the topic here.

I don't think it means that at all.

It means that pro life Americans need to ACT like it

and vote. Otherwise, the leftists will do a get out the vote campaign and get a bunch of leftists to over-ride t he majority who do NOT believe in abortion.

In other words, Christians these days are not very..

Then there is the possiblity of vote fraud as we saw in the 2020 presidential election

Right, we must move forward--We must move forward to a world in which any child at any age can be tortured, mutilated and murdered because of a woman' (or man's) social issues and/or carelessness..

That's progress, to be sure... Yep, we need to work toward being thoroughly civilized..

Thanks for your opinion, I will duly note it.

Well the states that passed these egregious abortion laws are guilty of absolute overreach of government. This was the reason Roe versus Wade came into existence in the first place to combat the egregious abortion laws that states were passing. When unjust laws are passed it is up to the populace to become disobedient and vote to resend the asinine laws.

It's just inconvenient that the anti-abortion community have to stew in their juices now that the Kansas, the best white hope, has spoken loudly with a 60% majority.

They acknowledge it and apparently note it!

But still, it was a statement made on 'rights and freedoms' that no American can ignore, no matter how extremist they want to be. Or will they?

They'll let everybody know soon!

It is currently. After FIFTY years being a Constitutionally protected right.

That’s longer than a lot of Americans have been alive

Longer than most Americans have been sexually active

I know you crazy people do that to children. Enlightened people abort the fetuses that they do not want to mature, avoiding most of your craziness.

Fifty years.

Show us the Amendment that made it a "Constitutionally protected right".

(Watch me make some money here folks. I'll bet that Lush will come back with an insult and nothing else.)
