A former Democratic candidate in Nevada has accused former Vice President Joe Biden of inappropriate conduct during a 2014 campaign event.

Lucy Flores detailed the encounter in a piece she wrote for New York Magazine’s The Cut, which was published on Friday.

She claimed the incident happened at a campaign rally in early November 2014, when she was attempting to become the state’s lieutenant governor. Biden appeared at the event to help round up support for Democrats in Nevada, she wrote.

Flores was in line, waiting to go on stage at the rally when she claimed to have “felt two hands on my shoulders.”

“Why is the vice-president of the United States touching me?” she recalled.

Flores claimed Biden sniffed her hair and “proceeded to plant a big slow kiss on the back of my head.”

Joe Biden is a creepy old goat. Everyone knows this. There is much photographic evidence of him crossing the line with women. He’s also a liar and a buffoon. But the Democratic party’s public-relations arm, aka the mainstream media, has never before had any incentive to hold Biden up to scrutiny. Why bother? When he became veep, any attack on Biden risked looked like casting aspersions on the man who made him his number two, and the media could not countenance any naysaying about the judgment of the Precious.

For the next few months, though, we’re in an amusing interstitial period when the media actually has a reason to attack their fellow Democrats: any hacks out there who think their party can do better than Biden (or Sanders, or Warren, or Harris, or etc.) can rip into their disfavored candidates in order to give an assist to their preferred picks. All of this goes away as soon as the Democratic pick for 2020 becomes evident, but until then we’ll be seeing some actual vigorous reporting.

Too bad that Gropey is too old (opinion) and Dopey is too young (Fact).

Lucy Flores was the Democrats’ candidate for lieutenant governor of Nevada in 2014. Vice-President Joe Biden went to Nevada to campaign for her. Now, Ms. Flores has decided the time has come to reveal that Biden touched her inappropriately:

As I was taking deep breaths and preparing myself to make my case to the crowd, I felt two hands on my shoulders. I froze. “Why is the vice-president of the United States touching me?”

I felt him get closer to me from behind. He leaned further in and inhaled my hair. I was mortified. I thought to myself, “I didn’t wash my hair today and the vice-president of the United States is smelling it. And also, what in the actual fuck? Why is the vice-president of the United States smelling my hair?” He proceeded to plant a big slow kiss on the back of my head.

Of course, no one who pays attention is surprised. Joe Biden has long been the creepy uncle of politics. The Daily Mail does the service of collecting photographic evidence of some of Biden’s greatest hits:

The liberal media generally didn’t pay much attention to Slow Joe’s wandering hands when he was Barack Obama’s Vice-President; nothing could be allowed to interrupt the narrative of the Obama administration’s wonderfulness. But that was then and this is now. Biden released a statement of the sort that is obligatory nowadays:

Neither then, nor in the years since, did he [Biden] or the staff with him at the time have an inkling that Ms. Flores had been at any time uncomfortable, nor do they recall what she describes.

But Vice President Biden believes that Ms. Flores has every right to share her own recollection and reflections, and that it is a change for better in our society that she has the opportunity to do so. He respects Ms. Flores as a strong and independent voice in our politics and wishes her only the best.

It won’t help. Biden is an old white man–not the sort that the Democratic establishment wants as its nominee. Ann Althouse writes, “It’s been determined that it’s time, at long last, to destroy Joe Biden.” I agree. But on whose behalf are the Democratic powers that be trying to sideline Biden, along with such lesser lights as Beto O’Rourke and Amy Klobuchar? My money is on Kamala Harris.

A spokesman for Joe Biden said the former vice president does not recall an incident in 2014 when a female activist said he inappropriately kissed her, but some of his potential rivals for the Democratic nomination said on Saturday they believe his accuser. The allegation was made in an online essay published on Friday by Lucy Flores, a party activist who was running to be Nevada’s lieutenant governor. Flores said Biden also touched her shoulders and smelled her hair when they appeared at an event together, making her feel uncomfortable. “He proceeded to plant a big slow kiss on the back of my head,” Flores wrote in the essay published in The Cut, an outlet of New York Magazine. “I couldn’t move and I couldn’t say anything. I wanted nothing more than to get Biden away from me.”
