Obama vs. Cheney – Round Two
Posted on August 24, 2009 by Matt Holzmann

ABC reports this evening that the CIA has released redacted copies of the reports requested by former Vice President Dick Cheney regarding enhanced interrogation techniques. They report that the information gleaned did in fact save many American and foreign lives. They also affirm President Bush’s statements that terrorist attacks were in fact thwarted.

According to these reports, one of the plots revealed by Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the 9/11 mastermind who was waterboarded two of the three times the technique was used according to other CIA reports, was to obtain and use anthrax spores and disperse them in heavily populated areas. Another was to commit another 9/11 event by flying hijacked airliners into London’s Heathrow airport. Other information gleaned was extremely valuable in identifying and mapping Al Quaeda’s financial network and hierarchy.

So the answer is that the end justifies the means. Torture is morally acceptable as long as you get answers.

Next time an American pilot is captured it will be morally acceptable to torture him if he coughs up information.

War is immoral by nature----and attempt to codify or sanctify any part of it is merely an illusion. Think about it---killing the enemy good---torturing the enemy bad ?

Geneva Conventions suck.

Agreed--probably do more to encourage war than to stop it.

It was not torture. But why don't you go talk to the terrorists that blow up schools, hospitals, shopping centers, that behead captives and murder women and children.

Ve haf vays uf makink you talk.....the American Way! Woo Hoo!

Just killing them is far more humane. Of course you have to use the proper ammo.

How true!
Lets bring back nuclear war and mustard gas

Nuclear war never left dumb ass. In fact the terrorists are still trying to gain dirty bombs and fully functional nuclear weapons. As for mustard gas, it is ineffective but the terrorists are trying to gain other chemical and biological weapons as well.

Are the detainees protected under the GC?

No they aren't.

But you already knew that.
