The modern state of Israel was created the same way other states were created in that era. The concepts of self-determination and decolonization were replacing the normalized concept of vast Empires. The Ottoman Empire (Turkey) renounced all claims to certain territories and signed a peace treaty which proscribed its new borders. The remaining territory was placed in the trust of the British and French Mandates, who were to provide assistance for the emerging self-determination of various peoples until they could "stand on their own". This happened not only with the territories of the Ottoman Empire, but with the dissolution of Empires in Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh), Africa, and, later, Europe. Of the many peoples who were recognized as having an inherent right to self-determination, one of them was the Jewish people. The Mandate for Palestine recognized this right to Jewish self-determination and implemented it. Same as all the other states in the former Ottoman territory. The Jewish people (Israel) then fulfilled the necessary requirements for Statehood and declared independence.
