pknopp Maybe this analogy will help you understand the problem. If China turns the volume to max on the 'Coarse Tune' knob, what good does it do for America to turn the 'Fine Tune' knob all the way down?

China is installing more wind and solar than any other nation. And is planting more forests than all the other nations put together. They are in an energy bind with rising expectations of their populace, and are taking a bad course to fix that. Their nation will suffer, and is already suffering, more that most nations from climate change. However, we are not in a good position to be throwing stones as we are #2.

China has so many people that you figure you can cancel out their environmental impact with a lame, misleading, and irrelevant stat. That's like saying our cities aren't to blame for pollution because even though they pump out over 90% of our country's pollution, they have 98% of the population.....so their impact is cancelled out with a stroke of a pen.

Denial ain't just a river in Egypt too.

We pump out about 1/2 the GHGs that China does. And India pumps out about 1/2 the GHGs that we do.

" to point that its economy suffers? Should they "lead" to point that they are no longer a "world power?" If they are leading by example, but none of the biggest contributors follow, what's the point? So that in the end we can say we were better than you? Unless and until China, Russia, and even India, get on board, nothing anyone else does is going to make a difference... except perhaps to the detriment of their people, their economy, and perhaps their ability to be a "world power."

Yeah, maybe we should make some changes... even if most of the climate changes are cyclical (and there is an argument to be made on that front), we would be foolish to believe that what humans do has zero impact... but let's not lose ourselves to a new religion at the same time.

By the way, isn't China a "world power?" Russia?

I am not responsible for what Russia or China does. There are things we can do though. We enact emission controls and business goes to other countries that have none so they can emit at will. I support large taxes on those companies.

That won't make us "suffer".
