The Palestinians shut it down by allowing the terrorists to use it as an operations center, thus making it a legitimate military target, just as they have brought all the damage to Gaza they are now complaining about. What is notable about this operation is that the IDF took the time to separate the terrorists from civilians and to aid them in transferring to other hospitals if needed.

The Palestinian cause, whether we are talking about civilians or fighters, is to destroy Israel, but Israel has changed the script so that this war cannot end until the Palestinian people give up that goal. The Palestinians now have only two options: release all the hostages and disarm or continue to fight and die while watching all the buildings they have allowed the fighters to use being destroyed.
