The Hamas attacks was on act of terrorism, but that was the reaction to Israel's actions.

It is a ridiculous statement, but even if it were true, it would be irrelevant to the current situation. The fact of the Oct 7 massacre and the threats from the Gaza Palestinians to continue to attack Israel until it is destroyed means that to protect Israeli citizens Gaza must be occupied by the IDF until such time that they are ready to live in peace with Israel.
