Why would I want to? Because guys who live like that are totally free. They don't have to answer to anyone. They are happy without tv's and cell phones. What they catch they eat. I think it would be so fun. Maybe after 2 years of doing it, it would get old? I'd like to start in the spring. Build my home, hunt, fish, garden, gather, jar, pickle, salt, dry out the food. Basically get ready for winter. Then survive winter and I would like to live there the next spring summer and fall but then leave before the next winter because I bet winters SUCK!

Thing is both the British and the US Government wanted people to settle land and make a go of it. I own 50 acres that was granted to one of my ancestors in the 1600s, back then the Shenandoah Valley was the frontier.

I wish there was one state where you could go to and when you buy the land, it's yours. PERIOD. No taxes. Because even if you do go off and settle some land, if you have to declare it when the state they're going to charge you property taxes. So you can never just go live free on any piece of land. The government has their claws in you even if all your shit is paid off.
