It is frequently used to signify defiance (especially to authority), contempt, or derision.

You should read an article by Lloyd Billingsley in the California Globe dated September 29 2019. Where Nancy Pelosi gave a communist tribute to Harry Bridges a Stalinist and soviet agent... I believe she game the tribute in 2001 and there was mention in the article of the young socialist alliance if I am wrong I appologise about that but it is quite telling...Like her tearing up the speech, it's her signature style then, thanks for the info.The symbol of the V is a well known and established symbol used by such groups as the young socialist alliance and other left leaning groups so it is not out of the question that those in AntiFa would know of its use or make use of it...The other thing to keep in mind is that Antifa has its roots if I remember correctly in the communist arm of East Germany. Yes it has come to be associated with being derogatory to others in the commonwealth nations but the symbol is much older and has deeper meanings to others... Basically it is an F U to the establishment and a sign of disrespect...NANCY PELOSI went on TV blasting the national guard and other emergency protective groups while asking for who in the chain of command ordered them?

So why is Pelosi and DC mayor chasing the national guard out of their hotel hating on law and order fighting back on terrorist groups like Antifa? Perhaps it's because shes one of the chain of command on that other side?
