Is "Equality" a Good Thing?

It appears that at the NFL's kickoff game a few days ago, the few fans who were present "booed" the players' demonstration for "equality." Other stated objectives of the "demonstration" were uncontroversial - fighting racism, opposing police brutality, and so on. But "equality" as a goal is an entirely different matter.

The Declaration of Independence declares that all [people] are created "equal," but that quotation refers to political equality, meaning that Englishmen living in the Colonies should not be treated as political inferiors to Englishmen living in Britain. Bringing that down to the present circumstance, all citizens have equal rights as citizens, with a few inequalities at the margins (e.g., South Dakotans are "more equal" in their Senate influence than Californians).

But what sort of "equality" are today's People of Color and their "white" supporters demonstrating for? In every measurable way, POC's have equal rights with the majority. They have an equal vote (an outsized influence, truth be told), have equal rights to government services and benefits, equal rights in the courts, they pay taxes on an equal basis. They have better than equal treatment by Government when it comes to employment and admission to government-sponsored schools. What is it?

Clearly, POC's do not currently enjoy statistically equal incomes or assets. But these are not distributed by Government, they are distributed by the free economy, and discrimination against POC's is at its lowest level EVER. Indeed, with affirmative action, diversity, and other discriminatory policies universally present, one could argue that the overall impact of discrimination is BALANCED by those benefits.

Do you support EQUALITY? If so, define it. And why do you support it?
The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States.

Any questions?

I support equality and agree with your post. If anyone is on the bottom rung of the ladder of prosperity, know it is on them. They were and still are equal, but it is up to them what they do with that equality. They had a chance of an education and laws allowing them to get a job. What they personally did with those opportunities is up to them, black, white or purple.

You are misinformed as to the Declaration of Independence. Not at all surprising considering that you are a Liberal.

All men are created equal does not mean they are equal after birth. There is also no guarantee of equal outcome nor their path.

People weren't booing players seeking equality.
As the OP asks, what "equality" are they seeking? I would like to see comparative statistics on whether police shootings are more related to race, seriousness of suspected crime, brandishing a weapon or otherwise resisting arrest.
Yep.

It all has to be view according to behavior, not skin color

If a white guy is able to wrestle a taser from a cop and is about to discharge it, guess what happens to the white guy?

.....college grads earn more--blacks graduate high school at lower levels = less qualified for college--where they graduate that less
So would it be reasonable to conclude I make $30,000/yr more than you do even though you consider me inferior to you?

The NBA discriminates against short people, and we need to fight for equality here. So they can't do lay up shots, its discrimination against short people. So they can't compete because blacks have a systemic advantage of their culture constantly driving black men to play better, that's black privilege and it has to end to help our undersized unprivileged folks. Especially the left handed lesbian midget albino Eskimos, they are so under represented by the NBA.

When one demonstrates for "equality" the implicit message is that you want GOVERNMENT to do something to promote economic equality. Although it is not usually perceived as such, the PROGRESSIVE INCOME TAX and the $15 Minimum Wage are attempts at pushing economic equality. The goal is a tax regime where the middle class pays more than 50% of its gross income in taxes at various levels, and the working class is uniformly paid a so-called living wage, regardless of the economic value of their work. In their "ideal" states of Scandanavia the tax bite for the middle class can reach 70%. But those economies have had zero job growth since the middle of the twentieth century - a status that could never succeed in the U.S., whose population increases at a constant pace.

"Equality" is one of those vacuous slogans like "social justice," "Black lives matter," and "de-fund the Police," that crumbles to dust upon even the slightest logical scrutiny.

But who is there to demand logical consistency and rational goals? Few that I can see.

Victor Davis Hanson.

They were rightly booing the use of sports to pass a political message.

Equal protection of the laws for unemployment compensation in our at-will employment States would solve for simple poverty under our form of Capitalism and ensure more full employment of capital resources. That means Labor as the least wealthy would be able to go to school and learn new skills or upgrade existing skills.

Yep.

The way I look at it is similar to the way bad parents react to their children in the grocery store. The little brats thow a little shit fit wanting the candy at the checkout counter, so the parents buy it for them just to shut them up. Of course, it never actually shuts them up because all it teaches them is that if they want candy, all they need to do is to throw a shit fit.

The same self reinforcing behavior comes in to play with blacks. They are already privileged over all others via affirmative action. They are already privileged in the way they get to be just as patently hateful towards white people as they want, yet whites are scrutinized down to the nth degree for imaginary " microaggressions".

Now they are demanding that they be allowed to indulge in unfettered criminality with no repercussions, and are being given the candy bar for THAT.

They don't take any responsibility for their behavior because they don't have to. People keep rewarding bad behavior and the more they are rewarded, the more they demand even more.
