Iraq has begun stepping up its attempts to stop Islamic State (IS) fighters entering from Syria with a new 20km security fence, a border guards spokesman said Sunday.
The barrier will also have a six-metre-wide trench, thermal cameras and drones scanning for fighters trying to cross the border.
"Ten days ago we started to set up a barbed wire security fence with surveillance towers along the border with Syria," told Anwar Hamid Nayef, spokesman in Iraq's Anbar province, the AFP.

The Roboguard M17 will let the operator conduct long-range surveillance and has a powerful machine gun to blast terrorists trying to cross into Iraq.
It is fitted with thermal cameras and can identify a person from nearly two miles away.
The operator can also open fire on vehicles and fighters at ranges of up to nearly a mile.
