IMO self loathing and immaturity are the major causes of the incel phenomenon. It is their perception of how they are treated by what is a relatively small number of their female peers that they have projected on to all women.

These people use on line forums to wallow in their own self loathing and wind up in a positive reinforcement loop in an echo chamber where they get constant validation of their complaints.

And these incels are in their late teens and 20's. there really hasn't been a time in the recent past where males ( I won't call then men) are expected to have families.
