Austin construction workers dig on a hot day in August 2021. Earlier this week, Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill that overturns local ordinances in Austin and Dallas that mandate regular rest breaks for such workers. Credit: Blaine Young

...................
Because he works in Dallas, a local ordinance gives him the right to at least a 10-minute rest break every four hours. But this is the last summer he’ll get to claim it.
On Tuesday, Gov. Greg Abbott signed House Bill 2127 — the Texas Regulatory Consistency Act — which bars cities and counties from passing regulations that are stricter than state ones. It also overturns local rules such as ordinances in Austin and Dallas that mandate rest breaks for construction workers.
Three years before Dallas implemented its rest-break ordinance in 2015, Ontiveros lost feeling in his arm after painting high school stadium stairs for more than 10 hours in 112-degree heat, he told Public Health Watch through a translator..................................
............Surveys of Dallas construction workers before the city’s ordinance was adopted found that 33% said they didn’t receive rest breaks and 66% said they didn’t receive water. At least 53 Texas workers died from heat-related illnesses between 2010 and 2020, according to a 2021 investigation by NPR, The Texas Newsroom, The California Newsroom, Public Health Watch and Columbia Journalism Investigations. ..................
People need to wake up to the reality that the gop is in the pocket of the super rich that don't give a damn about basic rights of us little people. Look for them to come after weekends, minimum wage, and basic safety standards in the work place soon. They want it to be like africa....Sick bastards.

Sigh .. People need to wake up to the reality that the left often jumps to conclusions without fully understanding the context. Did you actually read on this or just jump at the headline tag or a TikTok video from a purple hair provider?

In reality, Abbott removed local ordinances from metropolitan areas, like Austin and Dallas, because workers are already guaranteed the right to a safe labor environment covered through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Water breaks are best solved by OSHA controls, whereas local ordinances to limit options or flexibility for individual job site conditions, and only encourage business to do the bare minimum to check the box.

FAaFO....

Look....construction workers are primadonnas....we do what we want when we are ready to do it. There is nowhere near enough of us to go around. Them contractors were lucky we even showed up to the jobsite.

Laws smaws....we don't care. Go ahead....fire us. We will be working the next day anyway. It ain't like experienced and knowledgeable construction crews grow on trees....in fact we are almost on the endangered species list because them millenials don't work in the cold or heat. I think we are headed to unicorn (mythical creature) status soon enough.

A. you are a fuktard
B. you obviously can't read
C. just another leftoid lunatic jumping to conclusions
D. breaks and lunches are a federal law, not a state one
E. states can regulate WHEN a break or lunch can be taken, but they cannot take them away
F. learn some fucking LAWS before you open your dried up face hole and start spewing retard all over the place
G. construction workers go on break as soon as they clock in for work! They work about an hour and take a break, regardless of "regulations" from anybody. Bunch of lazy fucks. It's a miracle there's any civilization at all.

I call Bullshit.
It's not up to the governor as to whether workers can take a break.
And as someone who lives her unlike Jessica-spermlover:
I know for a fact that they take frequent breaks in the heat of the summer.

You should read your links

Right to take a break? They still have the right to take a permanent break if they can't perform the task they were hired to do. No one gets hired to take breaks.

Leave it to Democrats to twist the truth into whatever fits their narrative. What a stupid thread.
Exactly .. Oh the irony when the thread is started off with, "People need to wake up to the reality" right as the OP chose to provide misinformation without doing due diligence

OP should feel bad for wasting site resources.

Jessica — if that is its name — is hostile to reality and truth. One look at this thread’s headline and I knew reality wasn’t being reported.

It doesn’t even dawn on pathetic shills like Jizzica to question such things.

We're supposed to believe this guy worked for 10 straight hours in 112 degree heat without a break?

If that's true (and no one believes it is) it would be because he's an illegal.
