In a STUNNER of a Vote - GOP Votes Against Lowering Gas Prices/Price Gouging

So far no one that supports this bill has been able to show (using the bill) how this is a good thing.

And for the far left, profits are not price gouging. Sorry to burst your bubble on that one.
Profit is theft. Just ask AOC. Or Marx.

We just voted to crackdown on price gouging at gas stations and every single republican voted no.

The Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act would give the President the power to issue an Energy Emergency Declaration that would make it unlawful to increase gasoline and home energy fuel prices in an excessive or exploitative manner.

A bill to help against Price Gouging and corporations cutting the "little guy" by messing with oil and gas prices in the country was voted "Nay" by every House GOP member.

These are the same folks who go to any camera they can find and complain about gas prices. Thoughts?

EDIT: Full Bill (thanks to Kosh)

They were right to oppose that bill.

It's based on a malevolent agenda, and aimed at the wrong target.

“Big Oil” makes 5¢ to 10¢ in profit on every gallon of gasoline we buy from them. The bill seeks to “punish” them for making a profit that they have rightfully earned.

In the mean time, Big Government is taking up to $1.81 in taxes on each gallon, and is imposing excessive regulatory burdens that result in higher prices even before those taxes are applied.

And now, the Biden Administration is deliberately imposing policies that have damaged the oil supply chain, resulting in shortages and even higher prices.

Yes, we are being seriously screwed when we fuel up our cars, but it isn't the oil companies that are screwing us.

And if the real villains start “punishing” the oil companies, what effect do you really think that will have on the prices that we consumers pay? More costs for the oil companies to bear can only mean even higher prices for us.

Attacking a non-existent problem is going to help "the little guy"?

It's the ones who are responsible for creating the problem that are doing the attacking, and what they claim to be doing for “the little guy” will have no other effect but to make the problem even worse.

The likely scenario is that Democrats stuck some things in the bill that has fuck all to do with lowering gas prices. The left doesn't want to lower fuel prices.

whos price gouging and isnt it already illegal??

LMAO the highest gas prices are in deep blue DEM RUN states. :itsok:

This was yesterday in Sacramento. I think this is the first time I I have ever paid more than $6 for gasoline. There are still a few stations that are below $6, but that's where the crowds and long lines are, and they're not enough lower to be worth that.

If anyone reads this bill they can see why the republicans voted it down, and they should have. Even reading the first few sections, social programs reared its ugly head.

Terrible bill. Bravo to the right wingers for voting against this. Great name, bad bill.

Was there any pork attached?

Are we wanting to start price controls with the government? Seems like a bad idea as it just extends government reach. I don't like easy fixes as they usually led to bad long term results. Look at our exploding debt.

the marxist word for profit is surplus.
There is surplus in marxism, but the workers decide what to do with the surplus.
The workers? Doubt it, the government will decide as they know a lot more about what is best for the workers.

It was against their political interests.

Post #2 and Mac's already on the record as not understanding or believing in capitalism.

So Vladimir. Simple question. What happens when market participants overcharge. Any idea? You don't know, do you? OK, I'll make it easier.

You find two items for sale. One is $8 and the other is $9. What do you do if they both fit your needs equally? Oops, still don't know, huh? OK, let's try again.

You're the maker of the product that costs $9. No one is buying your product. Why? What do you do? STILL don't know?

What if you're the maker of product A? The maker of Product B drops their price to $7. Why did people stop buying your product? What do you do?

LOL, what a commie douche. What keeps prices in check in capitalism? Why can't companies charge whatever they want? Seriously, how do you not know that?

Really? Let's see them sell it for $100/gal.
Obviously they wouldn’t sell at a price people wouldn’t be willing to pay. They aren’t idiots. They figure out the max people are willing to pay out of obvious necessity and then sell it for that.
