Sonya Massey murder: Officials release video of officer shooting Black woman in her Illinois home.​

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Illinois State Police (ISP) released video this week of police entering the home of a woman who called 911 for help and the violent scene that ensued when a sheriff's deputy shot her in the face.



Police shot and killed 36-year-old Sonya Massey in her home on July 6. ISP posted the body worn camera (BWC) on Monday after Sangamon County State’s Attorney John C. Milhiser and law enforcement consulted with Massey's family.

Massey's death prompted first-degree murder charges against former Sangamon County Sheriff's Deputy Sean Grayson.

I read it and its really sad. Sonya Massey a 36 year old black female called police because of a prowler outside.

Cops showed up and one of them shot her in her kitchen in the face with his 9mm and then he told the other cop with him not to render medial aid, but the other cop went and got the medical kit and rendered aid and stayed with the victim until ambulance came. When he pulled his 9mm the black women began to beg for her life-all caught on camera. The cop pulled the trigger any way murdering her.

All of it was caught on the cop's body camera. The camera footage will be released to the public on Monday-all of it.
The cop is being held in jail... without bond-charged with murder. He has been indicted.

can't wait to see the body cam footage of this on Monday, it's so sad. When you hate black people NEVER EVER become a police officer. His lawyer says he (cop) has mental issues- like he hates black people-bond was still denied.

He deserves the charge, but I don't know if there really is a racial angle to it. Not completely dissimilar, there was a deputy a few counties away who shot a white woman when responding to a prowler charge because she had got tired of waiting for him to arrive and went out with a shot gun on her own to see if anybody was creeping about.
