Illinois sheriff’s deputy charged with murder shot Black woman in face after she called police for help

Full video from body cam.

This is his partners camera, not the shooters point of view camera. You can clearly see Massey throw boiling water at officer before he shot on shooters camera. Massey was a threat because both officers pulled their weapons at the same time.

Their mistake was not cuffing Massey as soon as they met her & saw she was wacked. They should have shut the stove off themselves after cuffing her. He was not a goog officer, but does deserve to defend himself.

Okay, so I watched this video. I see a cop acting completely unprofessionally, treating a mentally impaired woman in her own home like a perp.

Do you know who else saw the full video? The Jury.

GUILTY AS CHARGED.
That is his partners video who also pulled his gun on her, the shooter's video (not shown) clearly shows her lunging at him with the pot of scalding water.

Serious Media Bias.

Sean Grayson's Camera SN "X60A7941G" is shown in upper right corner. But 95% of the videos only show Dawson Farley's video SN "X60A83691"

Greyson's clearly video shows Massey throwing the boiling water at him before he shot her.

Yawl been dupped. Watch at 25% speed

I don't think it "clearly" shows any such thing. She certainly has the pot in her hands over her head, but whether she threw it at him or not is not at all clear from that video. It was such a short amount of time from when she grabbed it to when she was shot, she may not have even had time to attempt to throw it, if that was her intent.

Beyond that, the officer is not all that close to her at the time of the shooting; it looks like he's probably a good 5 or 6 feet from her. His attempt to justify the shooting by saying "And look, it came all the way to our feet, too" (in reference to the water) is laughable.

Frankly, he seemed to have escalated the situation unnecessarily. I don't think her use of the phrase "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus" can be considered a credible threat or reason for him to pull his gun and threaten to shoot her in the face. Unless there is video we have somehow not seen which makes it truly clear that the woman had thrown boiling water at the officer before he fired, it's understandable why a jury voted to convict.

The officers did NOT pull their guns at the same time. Grayson pulled first, his partner 3 second after. In the video you posted showing Grayson's body-cam in post 289, you can see Grayson pull his gun at 5:14, then Farley pulls his at 5:17.

Farley apparently testified that he pulled his gun not because of any threat, but to back up his partner. In addition, he testified that he was never scared by anything Massey said or did. To be fair, that does contradict his initial report.

So... put yourself in the officers shoes. They get a call about a possible prowler. The complaintant who is supposedly concern about a prowler is completely ambivalent about a strange vehicle with broken windows that apparently has mysteriously appeared in the driveway???

Then that person when asked their name refuses to provide it.

Then that same person refuses to provide identification.

And then that person threatens the police with boil water.

That shit would put me on high alert ... right up to the threat.

And if I tell someone I will shoot them in the face as a deterrent to them attacking me, and they still attempt it???

Well, let's just say, a desire not to be scalded with boiling water is understandable.

The legal standard for lethal force isn't just fear of death, but also grievous bodily harm... and as someone who has been scalded by boiling water, I would absolutely shoot you directly in the face if you credibly threaten me with it.

That's a fact, and I don't give a damn how crazy you are.

I believe this conviction will be overturned on appeal.

You're fantasizing, guy.

NO appeal judge is going to let THIS piece of shit out.

Frankly, the guy escalated that situation pretty quickly, just shot this woman because she was turning off a pot of boiling water.

Even his partner was like, "What the **** did you do, man!"

Gee, what I see is a cop screaming at a woman, and then shooting her as she cowers behind a counter.

Then he discourages his partner from even trying to administer first aid.

**** this guy. I hope he spends a long time in prison, being abused by the other inmates.

That water from the pot she hoisted over her head is steaming over that chair between them, because she was trying to throw it on him when shot. When a person is attempting to seriously injure an officer, they are very dangerous & need to be dealt with harshly or shot.

I don't condone any of his escalation of the situation & he was a bad cop who should have been fired for that, but he should not be jailed for defending himself or shooting an aggressive crazy attempting to seriously harm an officer.

Massey's psychologists were afraid of her & had to call the police on her. Massey's Mother was afraid of her & had to call the police on her. She couldn't be controlled even with medication, was a serious threat to the public & police with no respect for authority. That means lock her up or put her down.

Except he wasn't defending himself, he could have easily backed out of that situation. He shot an unarmed woman cowering behind her kitchen counter. Seriously, **** this guy.

You should not be permitted to vote, breed, or post online unless and until you pass a college-level course in civics.
I have a college degree.

Oh, and there was a time when I would have passed a civics course and you wouldn't have. Funny you are bringing this up. In the 90's and 2000's I was really into politics and none of my friends were. I could have told you who everyone was and how everything worked. I remember being that into politics. But eventually I got a life and became a normal person like everyone else who doesn't give a **** how many House seats there are, who's the speaker, who's 4th in line to be POTUS, how many justices, what are electoral votes, etc.

I simply lost interest. Since no one else seemed to care, why should I?

The fact is 80% of voters wouldn't pass your test. There was a time when I would have but I'll admit, not today.

Trump wouldn't pass your test. In fact if Trump didn't have a rich father he wouldn't have got into Warton Business school.

That's a lot of words to say nothing. Try harder.

You republicans are funny. You don't want felons to vote but you vote for a felon.

And you want any one who votes to pass a college level civics class but you vote for someone who couldn't pass that test.

Is Trump going to accept the challenge? An IQ test against AOC and Crocket? Why not is he an idiot or *****?

Ok, you're hallucinating now.

Ok, you're hallucinating now.

  • During the Oct. 29 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett accepted President Donald Trump's challenge of taking what he described as an IQ test
  • The test, which he bragged about getting a perfect score on, is believed to be the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, which is used to diagnose dementia
  • Crockett said that she was "absolutely" willing to take the test live on air, competing in what host Kimmel dubbed the James C. Kimmel Cognitive Aptitude and Mental Brilliance Invitational

I read it and its really sad. Sonya Massey a 36 year old black female called police because of a prowler outside.

Cops showed up and one of them shot her in her kitchen in the face with his 9mm and then he told the other cop with him not to render medial aid, but the other cop went and got the medical kit and rendered aid and stayed with the victim until ambulance came. When he pulled his 9mm the black women began to beg for her life-all caught on camera. The cop pulled the trigger any way murdering her.

All of it was caught on the cop's body camera. The camera footage will be released to the public on Monday-all of it.
The cop is being held in jail... without bond-charged with murder. He has been indicted.

can't wait to see the body cam footage of this on Monday, it's so sad. When you hate black people NEVER EVER become a police officer. His lawyer says he (cop) has mental issues- like he hates black people-bond was still denied.
WTF?

15th post
2nd degree murder, the judge can sentence him to 20 years, and he could probably be out in 10. It's a high profile case and he will likely get more time. He has a terrible track record of being a bad cop and being fired in his previous jobs, he was never fit to be a cop. He'll get more than 20.
