Moreover, the study’s breakdown of costs on a state-by-state basis shows that in states with the largest number of illegals, the costs of illegal immigration are often greater than current, crippling budget deficits. In Texas, for example, the additional cost of immigration, $16.4 billion, is equal to the state’s current budget deficit; in California the additional cost of illegal immigration, $21.8 billion, is $8 billion more than the state’s current budget deficit of $13.8 billion; and in New York, the $6.8 billion deficit is roughly two-thirds the $9.5 billion yearly cost of its illegal population, according to Jack Martin, the researcher who completed the study.

Legalization will cost even more because they will qualify for more benefits. They already pay taxes so that will not offset cost.

Most liberals don't care, as long as its not their money.

America has always had a demand for cheap labor. Early in our history we had indentured servants, immigrants and slaves as sources for that cheap labor. Slavery is now taboo as is indentured servants but immigration still holds. Immigration also brings in more buyers of products or they create an economic demand.
Imagine what would happen to the housing and other markets if we suddenly deported 12 million people. It also has become more political because, as usual, immigrants tend to vote Democratic at least until they gained some wealth.
Republicans are now beginning to question the value of cheap labor and new buyers versus the costs and the new Democrats.

Americans would find jobs and go to work. It has happen before and 11 million did not suddenly appear and they will not suddenly disappear. We would survive and come out stronger ameirca. Illegal create unemployement and dependency on entitlement programs thus costing a deficit. Cost outweighs the benefist.

Time to get the sh*t OUT! They are destroying us.

One: There are ways for foreign workers to enter the US work force and do it legally. Illegals drive down the cost of labor at the expense of legal citizens.

Two: What would happen, which it won't but if it did, unemployment would drop to about 5% or less.

Three: Illegals cant vote, at least they aren't suppose to vote unless they vote for democrats.

You'd think the govt would stop illegal immigration...but it sure doesn't seem to want to.

Most criminal aliens vote democrat. That is why Hussein is welcoming them and giving them citizenship. Meanwhile, the good, decent Americans suffer at the hands of these dirty, diseased, deadly, stupid, broke, thug, punk, godless, drunk, drugged-out, POS maggots.

The Government should take some serious notes of this one if it is really want US on the way to success and glory. Otherwise situations could be worse and new one would have strong allegations upon the current one.

America is so divided on this issue. Like most other issues, there isn't a common ground anymore. America as a unified group is lost. I hope something good comes from all the sacrifices of generations past. Because what is happening now is rather discouraging. My ideal of an immigrant doesn’t include people that need to be “protected” from laws they are willfully violating. People that use their “heritage‘“ as a hedge not to acclimate... because of “Freedom” . Despite all the past. Karma, Hubris, call it whatever. Please….The word “acclimate” is poison NOW. Something wrong with all that. All these kids get the warm and fuzzies rejecting the past and history for this fleeting sense of "now".
