We often hear the claim from MAGA racists that they aren't against immigration, they are against ILLEGAL immigration.

And then they pull stuff like this.

Foreigners in the U.S. who want a green card will need to leave and apply in their home country, the Trump administration announced Friday, in a surprise change to a longstanding policy that sowed confusion and concern among aid groups, immigration lawyers and immigrants.

For over half a century, foreign nationals with legal status have been able to apply for and complete the entire process for permanent residence in the United States — including individuals married to U.S. citizens, holders of work and student visas, and refugees and political asylum seekers, among others.

The changes comes on top of steps the administration has already taken to restrict and limit entry for people from dozens of countries. In some cases, there are outright bans on travel from those countries, while people from others face pauses in visa processing. Experts and attorneys warned that forcing people from those countries to return home to apply for a green card would result in them being barred from coming back.

Joe's Comment - This will probably make the problem worse, not better. It just means that out of 13 million or so immigrants with some level of legal status won't go home, they'll go underground.

The waiting list for immigration from Eastern Europe in 2012 was 17 years. This was while 0bama was waving illegals in from Mexico. I guess Eastern Europeans are too white and might not vote Democrat.

First, Source?

Second, Obama deported 3.1 million people and turned away another 2.1 million at the border. That's hardly "hand-waving" anyone in.

Throughout eight years in office, the Obama administration logged more than 3.1 million ICE deportations, according to Syracuse's Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse. The peak was fiscal year 2012, when more than 407,000 people were removed. By comparison, the first Trump administration maxed out at deporting 269,000 people in 2019, according to the same TRAC data set. Across four years, the Trump administration recorded fewer than 932,000 deportations.

It's all smoke and mirrors.

The Trump admin, when fully fleshed out the numbers reveal an administration that is full of shit.
Their 'mass deportations' were a ruse. Their strict immigration policies are a ruse as well.
-No wall...still
-600,000 Chinese student visas over two years is consistent with past administrations (D and R)
-230,000 total were deported in 2025--in comparison, Obama deported 238,000 in his first year.
-Moratoriums on key workers in specific industries ensure there will be no raids or mass deportations (Hospitality, farming, construction)

The problem wasn't as serious as it is now. Trump had fewer deportations because fewer people tried to sneak in until there was a surge in 2019. And more people entered our country in 2023-24 in our history.
