Ignorant Homophobes fined $13,000 for refusing to host wedding

Un-American Communism/Progressivism at its worst. This needs to be looked into. Those responsible for this fine should be investigated and possibly prosecuted themselves. This is not what America is about. Where you stand on this particular issue isn't the point. This 'fine' is an Un-American criminal act.

America is about being homophobic bigots?

Don't think so.

They run a business. They offer a service. They should provide that service when someone offers good money for it.

Not the point. This 'fine' needs to be thoroughly investigated. Those responsible may have to be prosecuted. It's Un-American.
How is it Un-American? Just like making business's treat all law-abiding tax-paying citizens equally is un-American?

Smokers are law abiding tax paying citizens

Elayne Photography still does not have to photograph same sex weddings. The ruling made that clear. What they may not do is advertise themselves as wedding photographers.

Sounds kind of stupid to me. pretty much eliminating 90% of your potential business because you hate gays is dumb.
They aren't eliminating anything.

NY Farm That Refused To Host Lesbian Wedding Fined $13,000

Liberty Ridge Farm's owners, citing constitutional rights to free speech and religious freedom, have appealed the August ruling by the Division of Human Rights that they violated state anti-discrimination law.

Their attorney said Robert and Cynthia Gifford paid the $10,000 state civil penalty and $1,500 each to Melisa and Jennie McCarthy, whose 2013 wedding they declined to host. The Giffords testified last year that in their Christian beliefs, marriage is between a man and a woman, and the ceremonies are held at their home, a private space where their own rights should be determinate.

Good!

We hurt them in the pocketbook and we shame them in the media.

There is a dark and twisted version of Christianity being practiced in the U.S. They throw love and tolerance over for fear and ignorance, clinging to one archaic hebrew tribal law.

HEY LOOK! It's a Leftist and as such an axiomatic Advocate for the Normalization of Sexual Abnormality, coming to advocate for the use of the police powers of Government be used to coerce citizens from freely exercising their religion.

Remember this when police powers are being used to enforce the reinstated laws forbidding sodomy... as a result of the lessons learned when those laws were lifted.

It's within their rights to be dumb. It is not within their rights to discriminate against fellow tax-paying, law-abiding citizens because of who they are.

The farm that was fined will no longer host weddings. Just receptions. They will still host weddings but not advertise it. Elayne's Photography may no longer offer wedding photography even if they still photograph weddings. The people will not change. Their business practice will change.

Gays might not even notice. One photographer offers wedding photography, one does not. They will have to patronize the photographer offering the service.

Susiecakes in Brentwood offers elaborate wedding cakes. Paris bakery in Westwood does not offer wedding cakes. Gay couples are literally forced to conduct their business only with the bakery willing to accept their money. Last week I was in the Westwood bakery when a same sex couple was trying to threaten the baker into making their cake. The baker said it happens once or twice a week. The couple was told to make their cake selection from what was offered in the display case. There are no special order cakes. They will have to go to Susiecakes. Yet friends of mine got their wedding cake there and the birthday cake for their son. Business practices were adjusted.

When I was sued I won because I never advertised that I would paint artworks on commission. That was my business principle.

It is within a business person's right to follow their own business model and adjust those practices according to their beliefs. It might very well result in discrimination. That's a consequence of living in a free society. Gays are going to have to get used to hearing the word no. They will have to accept the fact that they can only do business with those who are willing to do business with them.

So making your business practices less effective because you hate the gay is smart?

Hey, if someone is looking for a wedding photographer or hall, they are going to type in "wedding". which means all those other places that ARE advertising wedding things are going to come up first on Google Searches.

Actually, it's kind of pathetic that this is the last thing you guys are digging into.

After losing on job discrimination, housing discrimination, gays in the military and now the legal definition of marriage, your last hope is to rewrite your business so that you don't accidently offer a service to gays.

That's kind of ******* pathetic.

No what's pathetic is losers like you, who will NEVER actually own a business , are fine with other people being told who they must do business with.

No what's pathetic is losers like you, who will NEVER actually own a business , are fine with other people being told who they must do business with.

1) I do own a business.

2) I realize the key to that business is giving the customer what he or she asks for, not what i think they should have.

3) I also realize that I have to follow all the laws on public accommedation in running my business. I can't refuse a customer because I don't like who they are.

1) No you don't. You have a hobby, as you told me earlier in another thread

2) No , the key to being a successful business actually is to convince the public they want what you have to sale.

3) Again , as a business owner I CAN discriminate except for certain reasons. I could hang a sign outside my restaurant that reads "we don't serve Joe's here" and you would be out of luck, because Joe's aren't a protected class.

No, when I advertise it and charge money for it and pay taxes on it, it's a business.

2) No , the key to being a successful business actually is to convince the public they want what you have to sale.

Not so good on the verb choice, thing, eh?

And how would you no my name was "Joe" until after I had my meal and presented my credit card? Or I could just pay you in Cash and you'd never know what my name was.

Gays, on the other hand, are a protected class. They can legally get married and if you are offering wedding services, they get them, too.

How would I know your name before I served you? LOL I'm sorry I didn't realize I was talking to someone who hasn't been able to eat at a fine dining establishment.

See, we're a high end steakhouse. You don't just show up and order your meal on a plastic tray.

You walk in, and if the hostess approves she asks if you would like to make a reservation , our average wait time is 30 minutes at lunch an hour at dinner during the summer months. Less the rest of the year.

If you say yes, she asks your name. I suppose you could lie, but most people don't. And in point of fact, I wouldn't even have to have a sign up anyway, I could just randomly pick a different name every day not to serve "sorry sir, we aren't serving joe's today" and you'd have no recourse.

Tell you what, why don't you try that for a week and let me know how it works.

Now, will that just apply to Josephs, or will that also apply to Jo-Anns?

So, are you denying it would be legal?

oh, and actually we're a private club now so we don't serve the public .

Okay, whatever, dude. No one really cares.

So let's get on to the point. If you were running a business and not a club, and a gay couple wants to have a reception at your place, you got to serve them. Sorry, man.

Nope, because I don't advertise that we do receptions.

If you consider what you just said it means that you are starting to understand. Gays will only be able to patronize those businesses advertising and willing to do business with them. If you want that magical photographer who photographed your co worker's wedding it will take a personal introduction and pre approval with adequate vetting.

Had those two lesbians typed in portrait artist they would have gotten more than 100 artists. My name would never come up.

But it is VERY cool to know that the Militant Advocates of Normalizing Sexual Abnormality have no problem trying to FORCE people to into servitude through the illicit use of police powers.

You can NOT hide a fascist!

No more so than when 'no blacks served at this lunch counter' was found to be a violation of the law.

Which of those black folks chose to "BE BLACK"?

And how is 'choice' a standard of the protection of rights? Religion is a choice. But you can't deny a seat to Catholics or Muslims at the lunch counter either.

Next excuse.
