If the Dems win in Georgia today

What does it mean? Well, for starters it means the seats in the Senate would be split 50-50 and VP Kamala Harris would cast the deciding vote. But what it really means is that the democrats could change our gov't forever if they have the votes to abolish the filibuster, which as you no doubt know means the majority party in the Senate could pass any bill with only a simple majority. The Senate currently requires 60 votes to stop the debate on a given bill, and you can't vote on any bill until that vote (called cloture) passes.

There is a reason for that requirement. The 60 votes for cloture is there to prevent what is called the "tyranny of the majority". It was feared that the minority party would have no say at all in the Senate, as it currently doesn't in the House. They can squawk all they want but they cannot do anything of substance in the House. Not so in the Senate, up to now at least; these days there is no appetite in either party to cooperate and compromise, it' all obstruction to politically hurt the majority and hopefully get them voted out of office in the next election. And it works too at least sometimes. Hence, no working together on just about anything.

There are 2 Senate seats up for grabs today; if the GOP takes one or both of them then the controversy is over and the filibuster lives for at least 2 more years. But if the democrats take both seats, well..

I believe that if the democrats take both seats they will abolish the filibuster in some way that tries to avoid looking like a power grab but fools no one. The intense pressure from their base will be too hard to ignore IMHO. And if that happens then compromise and cooperation will forever be gone. When one side does that, the other side will follow suit when they take over, and they eventually will. Maybe that will spur the rise of a 3rd political party that would require some kind of coalition; I think that would be a good thing with or without the filibuster. Otherwise, it's a one-party gov't if you can manage to control everything.
I don’t think they will abolish it. It would a significant change, a bad precedent, and they won’t always be in power. Though God knows...after what Mc Connel has pulled....

The filibuster is a terrible procedure. If you don't want your Senators voting a certain way, Vote them our or shut the fuck up
Filibuster was meant to be rarely used except on extremely controversial legislation

Mitch applied it to all legislation and Gridlocked the Senate.
Time to move to majority rules
There are times when gridlock is good. The Repubs are like the junior partners in the government. Even when they are in control. For all they do is slow down the movement to the left when they have it. I am saying this again. The Prog party is not what many people who vote for it think it is.

I think McConnell has been no worse than Harry Reid. There no innocents in DC these days, it seems.

While true both were horrible. That's what we get.

I agree, no innocents, but McConnel took it significantly further with blocking judicial appointments and what he did with the SCOTUS (blocking even a hearing on Garland, and then a complete reversal with Barrett). Thing is, if Dems try to end the filibuster it will end up hurting them as well. It has to stop somewhere.

McConnell turned the filibuster from a rarely used procedure into a requirement that all appointments and legislation needed 60 votes

For me, I believe that when a nation moves to fast it gets a screwing somewhere. When different factions are completely opposite in many agendas it is worse. We do not have anything approaching slight bipartisan relationships in D.C. today. So even if Progs control all 3 branches they will take that as pure referendum whether it is or not. The house and senate are not dominated by either party. And votes will be close and based on pure party lines on much of it. Most of the programs we have already need to be reformulated with new rules added to it and some old ones removed.

We do not move fast
We are becoming a backward nation. Nothing gets done, infrastructure is crumbling, people are dying at 3500 a day and we do NOTHING

I have to agree taking into account the split constituency. In a perfect world everyone would be of Libertarian ideology like our entire global population would be @ peace with one another, enjoying their neighbors & just living life as one desires. I was actually gullible enough to believe the before mentioned could really be achieved BEFORE I went for a degree in sociology. Yeah, we need to keep the political field @ trim or we(constituency) will roll hard over then crash & burn. We need to keep the upper & lower houses under separate control. The potus is the wild card & is up for grabs. The deep state bureaucrats do not matter as they like some cancers cannot be removed without killing the patient. The scotus is totally under control of the oligarchy which explains why many past scotus decisions seemed out of this world(to both sides).

This is where I can completely understand the RANK & FILE lefties concerns about the behind the scenes Power & Control(PC) agenda of the oligarchy. Unfortunately the left got sucked into the religion of marxism(the oligarchy made sure of that one!) along the way which completely invalidated them of possessing any common sense what so ever. The rank & file right constituency seemed to have the train on track & riding to the rescue of the Republic but out of nowhere an influx of neocons/centrists(oligarchy again) derailed the train & in short had the right constituency split & fighting among themselves. With the statist left constituency lacking any common sense & the right constituency blind in one eye & not being able to see out of the other eye the oligarchy can run rampant @ will. It would be in the best interest of both the left/right constituency to work in unison against the oligarchy but don't hold your breath on this one!

Thankfully Sleepy China Joe and Camela Super Spreader Harris still are a long way from obtaining the White House if justice prevails.

t8 speakum truth.

After serious in depth research into TV preachers, it is clear what will happen if Democrats win in Georgia. The United States will cease to exist. We will all be forced to become Communist socialist illegal alien Nazis with no rights at all, and forced to gay marry. Churches will be closed, and Christmas will be forever Banned. You will be arrested and thrown into Fema Prison if anybody finds out about that tinsel you have hidden under your bed. Innocent little Christian babies will be born without any clothes. Your only hope will be to send massive amounts of money to Kenneth Copeland. who will convert all that money to Jet airplanes so God will at least have some way to travel around the country. A Democratic win would be the end of the world.
Your sarcasm is fantastic but please give me the address of Kenneth Copeland so I can send him a shiny copper penny.

If you send such a small amount to Kenneth Copeland, you will likely be sent directly to Hell. Copeland's entire system is based on the premise that the more money you give to God, (through Copeland's ministry) the more blessings you will receive. Evidently, God needs the money to give his TV preachers a lavish lifestyle, and to purchase as many jet airplanes as possible. He has been known to tell poor widows who couldn't afford both food and medicine that they were being too greedy, and if they would just give him more of their megar funds then God would increase their ability to survive.

Communism. They vote you in and you have to shoot your way out.

Funny thing about communism--it never has come out of a wayaward democracy. only from feudal monarchies and colonies.

Fascism, on the other hand is always a threat, wherever the electorate is miseducated so that they are incapable of governing themselves.

Try reading some history

Didn't realize there were that many people who believe a one-party gov't is good thing. Most of 'em I'm guessing only believe that when it's their party in power, but not so much when it's the other guys. Even so, if either party gets to that point where they can pretty much do as they please, half the population will be okay with that but the other half would HATE it. >> Permanent divided country. The party that's in would spend all their time undoing what the other did, and back and forth it would go.

I dunno, maybe we need to hit bottom before we finally have a paradigm shift. But if and when that happens, IMHO a lot of people are going to suffer big time.

Yes, that is the result of decades of indoctrination from the public schools.
