If evolution is the cornerstone of science...

Look around, it's obvious. Just yesterday tens of thousands, perhaps millions, across the country held false demonstrations against the president. Just think of the litter they left behind for someone else to clean up.

I was there, they seemed pretty real to me and I don't recall seeing any more litter than usual.

They would be real if Trump actually made himself king. Kings aren't elected for four-year terms. It is noteworthy that Trump is winning many if not most of his court battles.

That's not a good analogy. Intelligent people can be inconsiderate. Just look at the behaviors of all the militant atheists that post here. They don't behave that way because they are dumb.

Or were you referring to the "false" demonstrations?

False demonstrations. The litter is just a parting shot by them.

If people want to 'change the way things are' they should first change the 'way they are'. If done there will be little left to protest and little time for anything else.

People whose actions fly in the face of evolution.
Anyone who accepts evolution must also accept that "things" die out. Jackie Robinson had to endure intense hatred for the hatred to die out.

Jackie Robinson open doors for himself mainly. We celebrate black sports champions today but still don't want them to move in next door.

So unless everyone believes the same thing that must mean the ones that don't are stupid? As near as I can tell discovering truth requires conflicting opinions. Diversity of thought plays a crucial role in discovering truth. Our Founders understood this which is why we have free speech. Demonstrating and protesting against the status quo is decidedly a very American thing to do.

We've carried 'diversity of thought' to extremes giving credence to nonsense. The most glaring examples of this are the beliefs that we can obtain health through surgeries and medications, or that we can borrow our way to prosperity. It's like believing that the best way to get to the north pole is by heading south.

I disagree. His contribution to normalizing race relations should not be understated. It was a major step in the civil rights movement.

By the same measure it shouldn't be overstated.

Truth will win out regardless All it takes is time, patience and persistence. Error will eventually fail. Which is how most lessons are learned.

AI Overview

Critics and news outlets have identified several actions and policies associated with Donald Trump that they describe as authoritarian or anti-democratic. These actions include:
Undermining Democratic Institutions and the Rule of Law:
  • Attacks on elections: Trump has been criticized for actions and rhetoric aimed at undermining the legitimacy of elections, particularly in relation to the 2020 presidential election. He has also been accused of attempting to influence the primary process to favor his candidacy and consolidate power within the Republican party.
  • Challenges to the peaceful transfer of power: Trump's refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election and subsequent actions, including inciting the January 6th Capitol riot, have been widely seen as a fundamental challenge to the democratic process.
  • Disregard for the independence of the judiciary: Critics point to Trump's attacks on judges who ruled against him and his attempts to intervene in judicial processes as undermining the independence of the judiciary.
  • Weaponization of government agencies: There are concerns that Trump may seek to use government agencies to target political opponents or silence dissent. This includes accusations of using executive orders to target law firms and potentially firing U.S. Attorneys who refuse presidential orders.
  • Weakening independent agencies: Efforts to politicize and weaken independent agencies like the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) have been criticized as endangering the public interest and potentially leading to corrupt practices.
  • Ignoring Judicial Orders: Some executive actions have been described as disregarding court orders.
Suppressing Dissent and Controlling Information:
  • Attacks on the press: Trump's rhetoric and actions against the media, including calling for media outlets to lose broadcasting licenses, have been criticized as attempts to undermine a free press.
  • Threatening free speech: There are concerns about actions that could lead to chilling free speech at universities and cultural institutions.
  • Misusing the Insurrection Act: Concerns have been raised about the potential for misusing the Insurrection Act to stifle dissent.
Other Criticisms:
  • Undermining Human Rights: Amnesty International has detailed concerns about the Trump administration's actions regarding immigration, freedom of expression, and LGBTQIA+ rights.
  • Promoting an Imperial Presidency: Some critics argue that Trump's actions and policies have contributed to the creation of an "imperial presidency" that harms Americans.
It's important to note:
  • These criticisms and lists of "authoritarian deeds" reflect the perspectives of specific groups and individuals.
  • The term "authoritarian" is used by critics to characterize these actions based on their perceived impact on democratic norms and institutions.
  • Some sources suggest that Trump's actions are simply utilizing legitimate presidential powers to address long-standing problems.
  • The validity and interpretation of these actions are subject to ongoing political and legal debate.
