I think solar roofing tiles

Not to mention significant loss of value of your home.
Panels loose as much as 80% of their power in as little as 15 years - wildly depending on location and environment and how quality the panels are.
I though it wasn't about panels?

Something has to be done about AGW. A lot of small solutions, as well as EV's.

The easy fix was nuclear. If the world was in real danger, its what the experts would have suggested.

Since they didn't...

Don't be daft.
To protect the climate, we must abate the most carbon at the least cost and in the least time.

The cost of generating solar power ranges from $36 to $44 per megawatt-hour (MWh), the World Nuclear Industry Status Report said, while onshore wind power comes in at $29–$56 per MWh. Nuclear energy costs between $112 and $189 per MWh.

Solar roofing tiles and panels on your home could power everyone's home in the future or at least the majority of energy needs. Would you buy such a home???

The sun is a powerful tool to power our homes.

Probably 75%-90% of our energy needs to could done with solar energy on our homes.
A great idea, just a trickle of electricity so that we all live in third world conditions

I asked about them when we redid or roof last time. I was told it would probably cost around $50K instead of $6K

Solar power is costly, with a limited shelf life, as its full potential continues to degrade over its lifecycle. Is the additional cost and maintenance worth the cost savings it provides over time, which a single homeowner can realize?
House location, sun direction, roof size, Southern Scotland etc.. I put that data into a solar panel calculator and over the life span of the panels, it was -neg payback. So it's cheaper just to buy electric in and remain on the meter. And because there's a property below us, technically we could only use half the roof. So that totally knackers the figures.

I am in the Energy Industry, predominantly nuclear. With that, I am exposed to all the conferences and "experts" on energy from all form. Local Solar (on roofs, structures, etc.) is really smart. Solar Farms are for absolute morons that like expensive energy that cannot be base-load. State governments would be very smart to promote local solar solutions on homes.

Ask the people of Vermont, Alaska, and upstate NY. They have some of the least sunshine per year.

Until the next storm. Hail is the death of solar tiles, not to mention the expense. My neighbor out west called to tell me there was a 20-minute hail storm that took out our house windows, car windows, boat windows. A hail storm here turned my daughter's car into a golf ball. How many times are you willing to cough up thousands for a new roof, before you decide solar roofing tiles aren't a good choice economically?
