If you voted for Trump you voted for tariffs. He was 100% clear about that in almost all of his campaign speeches and television interviews. His use of tariffs is to end the pain here in America, namely the exodus of good jobs to other countries, unfair competition with American products, and to convince other national heads of state that they need to do what they must to stop the flow of dangerous people and substances into the United States.

His instincts in these things have been pretty darn good in the past. Let's see how they play out before the negative criticism.
