A more realistic explanation is obvious:

The electorate saw that the then President and candidate, Joe Babbling Buffoon Biden, was too mentally compromised to be President. (I hate the politics of liberal assclown actors like George Clooney; but candidly, Clooney was right in making a stink about the Biden problem.)

So, the Dim Party’s honchos got together and advised Biden that he had decided to withdraw from the race which befuddled Potato then agreed to do. And the Dim brain trust couldn’t figure out how to avoid simply coronating Kamala Kackles the Klown Harris. So, without her having won even one primary or caucus vote, they proceeded to simply do just that: they decided that she was the Dim Party’s nominee.

Admit turned out, she (like Potato before her) couldn’t communicate coherently either. And the American voters collectively decided “oh shit! Not this crap again!”

So, the people did throw out the bum and declined to install the other bum. Instead, we chose Trump.
