All we Christians need to have the assurance of our salvation. A large
number of we Christians, in the past at times, have struggled against
doubt. The problem is this: Sometimes we feel like we're saved and
sometimes we feel like maybe we're not saved ~ or at least we have
some doubts that enter our minds. The solution to this problem is to
never trust your feelings on this issue because your feelings will
change with the wind. Your feelings will go from high's to low's
based on the changing winds of circumstances. Instead of trusting
in your feelings on this issue, put all your trust in God's Word which
never changes and God has said clearly and specifically that we can
KNOW for certain that we are saved. And God does not tell lies. He
always tells the truth. So? So "have faith in God" and KNOW that
you are saved.

It is too bad that Humans have taken the message that Jesus gave and let themselves pervert it to create the 'religions' we see now with all their rules. Because Jesus died so that we could be free. I can assure you there is no salvation. You die like all animals and there's no heaven or hell. Its extremely arrogant to think because you believe in a god that your have unique access to eternity while wilfully dismiss unbelievers to hell.
Come to terms with death because it is vain and presumptuous of all godbotherers to think they get another life after this.

Now I firmly believe in Jesus Christ and that he died so my sins would be forgiven and I would have eternal life.

"Feelings" cannot be trusted in relation to finding salvation. Feelings are often wrong even though you might strongly feel something is correct. A biblical example of someone trusting their feeling......which were demonstrated to be wrong is found in Genesis 37. Jacob was deceived by his sons into thinking his son Joseph was dead.......his "feelings" were wrong.

Relying on feelings can also be just as wrong as when Jacob thought his son was dead......this especially applies in matters of religion as one inspired writer declared, "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man; but the end thereof are the ways death." -- Prov. 14:12 Then, once again Soloman said, "He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool." -- Prov. 28:26

Saul.......later to be known as the Apostle Paul is the perfect example, when he was persecuting Christians. He thought that he was doing right (Acts 26:9).

Now HOW CAN YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE SAVED? Trust the Word of God as its truly the only way to communicate with God to find his will not yours...... through the works of the Holy Spirit that inspired that Word. As you pointed out..........your FEELINGS might change on a day to day basis...but the Bible is the only standard that a Christian has......its his comforter, his weapon against deceit, and the only standard that allows you to know that you are saved.

John has written, "These things I have written unto you, that ye may know that ye have eternal life, even unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God." -- 1 John 15:13

How do you know that you are saved? YOU KNOW when you have done the will of God as written in the Holy Scriptures.

More obvious example of allowing feeling to direct your life. Suppose you went to a high end deli and requested 3 pounds of the butchers highest quality meat. The butcher proceeded to slice off the meant into a neat stack.......he picked up the meat and said, "This FEELS like 3 pounds......." and then charges you. Would you trust that butchers FEELINGS?

The Holy Scriptures have lain out a plan that leads to salvation. Follow that plan......its like a instruction book to this game we call life...............its The Only Standard that can quantify or measure your salvation. Man can never trust his own ways.......

I wasn't arguing that gods or fairies or leprechauns don't exist. I was making the point that his healing came from within, and the mythology he found to help him along the way was more a coincidence of his time and place in history due to the genetic accident of his birth than it was due to the mythology having any real truth or value specific to it.

As I said you might just be right. However if I am right I am way ahead of the game whereas if I am wrong its no big deal.

There are those who argue that Christianity is just a crutch. Well there was a time I badly needed a crutch and due to my faith I was provided one. I also have seen prayer deliver what I consider to be a miracle.
