Zone1 How to make baseball more intense...and more interesting....

I originally thought that too, but I like it. It is exactly what they do in tennis on close line calls and that has worked well for years.
What has always bothered me about Baseball is the ever changing strike zone. Each umpire is different, some umpires will call a pitch a strike and later call a pitch in the same location a ball.
A pitcher needs to know that when he throws a certain pitch, it will be a strike.
A batter needs to know if he lays off a pitch, it will be a ball

True, there should never be any question about inside or outside strikes. The high strike is probably the toughest since batters vary so much in height and stance. I like the incremental approach with the strike/ball challenge.

I did like the ball/strike strike challenge they rolled out at the all-star game. What did you think?

Yeah better. But who aligns the box on Ricky Henderson for example. Or constantly changing stances? I dont know seems loose goosy to me.

In some slow pitch...if ball hits mat behind plate its a strike. 2 fouls more out. No room for error. Baseball? Cannot.

some people think a computer should call balls and strikes...

Hard to call the "tickle" the edges of the zone. Computer called those in game. Ump did best he could. Those are the ones.

How about this.

The pitcher throws the ball.

If the batter can catch it, then the batter can run the bases.

While the batter is running the bases the opposing team can tackle him.

If they tackle him there is no run scored, if the hitter runs the bases they get 4 runs on the scoreboard, one for each base.

It’s bs.
Just do what we did as kids playing wiffle ball; if the pitch hits the passenger window of Bobby’s dad’s car parked behind the batter, it’s a called strike. 😉

You can literally bet on every pitch. One P under fire now for a way out pitch thrown in a certain inning to certain hitter right after huge bets laid on ball or walk in 3rd inning.//

Huge uproar over player stats in football Under when big money bet and he goes out early sore foot. //

Yes, more investigations going. Sigh. It's no longer easy.

Computer will call that pitch a strike or a ball, but it will be consistent
A pitcher can practice off the computer and know how accurately he can make that borderline pitch.

Can’t do that with human umpires

Teams have missed the playoffs because of a bad strike call at the end of games. Your comment is silly. They already do the exact same thing for close line calls in pro tennis and it works very well.

Tennis lines are very well defined. A strike call is very subjective. Apples and oranges.
Umpires are official.
What’s more, the batter has a bat so he has options. If it’s borderline, he’d better swing instead of hope.

US Sports is the pinnacle of competition. We have the tech to make it better and the ball/strike challenge will do that.

US sports have been relegated to resemble pro wrestling. Titillation and low-IQ.
Every replay in football games that obsess with in-bounds of plays or possession issues can reveal an uncalled penalty. Penalties can impact a game as much as any other issue. Why restrict replay to only certain elements? Because the clientele is stupid.
Baseball was the last pure American sport and now that’s being trashed.

I agree that replay review takes way too long because they are splitting hairs. If they can't determine the call is incorrect within 30 seconds, the call stands. That is different than what was rolled out at the all-star game which was fast and fair. Pitcher, Catcher or Batter can challenge.

Completely defeats the purpose of the pitch clock. As long as an umpire is consistent, pitchers and batters can adjust. Part of the game. The human element. It’s a human game.
