.304 and a Batting Champion?

Nobody is going to ask 60HR teams biggest guy to bunt with nobody out.
With no outs, bottom 15, man on second, winner takes all?

It's kind of exactly what has been argued for, in this thread.

The arguments used for bunting apply as much or more to him as to anyone else. High K rate. Average BA (.247).

By the logic presented... only 60 HR, but 188 Ks. A must bunt! That was the counterpoint presented, when talking about expectation.

His result: unproductive line out!

But no? Then what is the threshold? 30 HRs? 25? Now K expectation doesnt matter, because he hits a HR every 12th time up?

I'm not pretending these are easy, cut and dry answers.

And there it is. Bottom 15th, man on 2nd, nobody out. Winner takes all.

Cal Raleigh at the plate.

Who here in this thread tells him to bunt?

Jarlaxle? You brought him up. Why? To say he gets more Ks than hits.

So... do you bunt him?

He did not bunt, BTW.
You're on a forum while watching a game? lol

Don't play stupid.
Don't play shy.

Would you have bunted Raleigh? It appears you would not have.

But, all the arguments presented FOR bunting applied to him and to that situation. All of them. And the Ms didn't need a homerun anyway; the man on 2nd is the only runner that counted, For the same reason, who cares if he is slow? The double play isn't in order. He is giving an out away to bunt, not trying to get on base.. So that isn't good reason

So, why not?

The reason is the same reason bunts are usually ill advised in the first place. Raleigh's expectation of moving the runner by swinging away is actually pretty low, because of his K rate.

And he CAN end the game on one swing, as a homerun will do. So can most ML hitters. That's how they got there.

Your straw man is dead. Put the bat down. Stop comparing apples and rutabagas.

I'm not. And you are dodging.

Why not bunt him? Because he hits a HR every 12th PA? That wouldn't make sense.

I would have liked to see a Bunt for base hit last night by MIL in the Bottom of the ninth with bases loaded. Suicide squeeze is fun to say.

Lets light this thing up when the older slow big relief pitcher came in? Maybe beat it out both Home or to First. Maybe they panic and muff the catch? Throw it away? But I like the excitement. The daring, rather than swinging at a ball at your neck for strike three. It's hard to lay off with 2 strikes. Even better, B us a slow bunt up the 3B line with 2 strikes. MBGA!

Also the guy could have gotten hit to force in the run. Make the ump call you out for not trying to get out of the way. Love a good argument too! MBGA!!

Hard to do unless you coached it up before he went to bat. Instinct says to move out of the way. Predictable K is not much fun. Or a Walk......That was Ball three at least to Tourange? Then the pressure on the Pitcher at 3-2. sigh...it did not work out for MIL.//

Toronto just bunted. Successful bunt.

Men on 1st and 2nd, 0 outs, down 2 runs. 9 hitter at the plate.

Both runners advance. Batter out.

Then, a 3 run HR.

I saw the bunt. Missed the HR. More pitching changes got in trouble? Sac fly woulda tied it up. Springer? Holy cow.

Sac fly would have left the Jays down a run.

And if a better hitter were up, they would not have bunted. Even in that situation where they did buny, a strong argument against bunting could be made.

Runs are precious in playoff baseball. You could walk Springer setting up a force at any base (Old NL style). Then pitch accordingly (to Lukes?) to try and stop the SAC Fly. DP groundout is best of course with 1-out.

I missed the HR AB.

I was going back and forth to NFL
I may be confused with the SEA bunt by SS Crawford?. Similar situation.

I know this, I did not see why SEA pulled Kirby or Woo so quickly.

Bieber was giving up hits but looked to be doing better and also got pulled?

I think they are looking at matchups.

One, he likely doesn't know how.
Two, he's very slow.
Three, a fly ball accomplishes the same thing.
