.304 and a Batting Champion?

I have seen Pitchers get amazingly better in my lifetime

Used to be rare to see a pitch over 100mph
Now, every team has several pitchers who consistently reach that speed
These crazy speeds are hurting pitchers. There are more runs scored now than a few decades ago. Pitchers are also blowing out their arms.

Of course not what i argued. And any average ML hitter gets as many or more hits than strikeouts. So you're off base.

Also, a shit bunt can make two outs, while a K just makes one out. And the expectation of that double play happening when bunting with a man on 1st or bases loaded is almost as high as that of a strikeout, if swinging away.

The managers go where the facts take them.

A double play on a bunt is not "common" whatsoever from what I know. Usually to "move runners up" and bunter is thrown out a 1B.

Without looking it up, there are some batters Striking out 200 or more times? 1/3 to 1/2 of PA.

I agreed with PHI walking Othani to setup a force at any base on a bunt or infield squibber. Anywhere anytime. PHI fas are killing the manager. For that and for taking out pitchers? The last RP got "the out" squibber but in shock he fumbled it, then panic threw it away.

He does know how to bunt. He is a good bunter, and one of the fastest players in the league. You are just not following.

Even the best bunters just should not bunt, except for when in one of a very narrow set of circumstances.

Because every single one of them is a better hitter than they are a bunter. That's how they got to MLB in the first place. The slappy little guys who reliably lay down bunts are riding the bench in AA.

The expectations are better if you just let MLB hitters swing.

And no, bunt drills every day are not going to change that.

A well placed bunt can be a killer with runner on third or bases loaded. No room for defense foul up. A speedy guy can get on with many styles of bunt.

BOS started miracle 3-0 comeback when a single runer got on an (pinch runner?) stole second. It happened a lot "back then". Depending on outs, teams could bunt the runner up 1 base.

Get off me. SEA is on vs DET.

The most important STAT on offense I would use is Hard hit balls. That means the battery is "on it". He has a chance to find holes eventually. 0-4 hitting rockets is better than a bloop and three weak outs perhaps? Just bad luck sometimes.

A Two out RBI is huge.
RBI + RUNs scored is another good one. Takes out a lot of the batting order favoritism. The idea is to score runs. Get on, get in.

I could go on.

Never contradict FFI-he KNOWS ALL! Just ask him.

Most strikeouts than hits isn't unusual-offhand, Kyle Schwarber and possible MVP Cal Raleigh come to mind.

You mean like 2 of the 4 highest payrolls teams already out of the playoffs?
So you're saying they made the playoffs?

WAR measures past production. You use it to place a smart bet. Not every bet works out. But youre giving yourself better odds.

And the highest payroll team that never even made the playoffs?
Injuries suck, what can I say.

Mariners: leadoff runner on 2B, no outs, bottom of the 12th. Winner takes all and moves on.

2 failed attempts to bunt by two different hitters. Then a fly out, then a double play.

Now, don't get me wrong. That is one of the times when you look to bunt. It just goes to show that bunting is just really, really hard.

MVPs are, uh, a bit unusual.

And it makes the orignal point anyway. What makes it okay that they strikeout a lot? Power.

It would have to be an extreme bunt situation, to bunt one of those guys.

Bottom 13, still tied, man on 2nd, nobody out.

The Mariners are NOT bunting, this time.

And there it is. Bottom 15th, man on 2nd, nobody out. Winner takes all.

Cal Raleigh at the plate.

Who here in this thread tells him to bunt?

Jarlaxle? You brought him up. Why? To say he gets more Ks than hits.

So... do you bunt him?

He did not bunt, BTW.

Are you playing stupid?

well that puts the bullshit about those teams always making it and winning...

In what the rest of us call "reality", WAR is indeed a statistic.

And the statisticians employed by MLB owners use this statistic to create expectations and to find market inefficiencies, both to help guide their GMs' spending.
WAR is a value judgment based on stats, but it is not a stat itself.

no its another mathematical formula just like WAR...
WAR is an approximation.

Put two bags of gumballs side by side. Determine the number of gumballs in each.

The WAR advocate looks at the showing gumballs and then tries to extrapolate the amount he can't see. The statistician opens the bag, dumps the gumballs, and counts them. That's the difference.

Too many guys are swinging for home runs. Someone mentioned De la Cruz. He's one of many.

I agree with you that bunting is situational. Just like base stealing. You pick your spots. There are plenty situations to bunt, but teams don't do it.

Well, it’s hits and runs and fielding and running and HRs and then a magical formula that we can’t tell you is applied and you get WAR

Just trust us

Well, sure. Maybe those guys playing two sports can add those numbers. I combined HRs with my total hat tricks. Now I'm the Magical Home Run King!🪄🪄🪄
