These mechanisms are very intricate. There are multiple kinds of oxytocin receptors and they all do different things. Much of it is tied to sodium, for instance oxytocin increases uterine permeability to sodium during pregnancy.
Brain development though, has everything to do with timing. Very small changes in hormone levels can have dramatic impacts on developmental outcome. If they happen during developmental critical periods.
Developmental "critical periods" are ubiquitous in neural networks. In kittens the visual system is critical at 6 weeks, if you put vertically polarized goggles on a 6 week old kitten for 3 days, it'll never be able to climb stairs ever.

The "social behavior" they're talking about is related to s specific area of the brain, called ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC).
If you think you're a woman, the way you behave in social situations is different than if you think you're a man.
This is the same area of the brain affected in psychopathy. True biological psychopaths are extremely rare, and there, there is a problem in the mitochondria, relative to glutamate compartmentation. The result is, that the connections from amygdala to vmPFC don't form properly, during a developmental critical period that happens very early, at age 2 years or less. Most genuine psychopaths are already acting out by age 5.

Any test that would confirm one was born in a non confirming body.

See, I’m a problem solver.
Well, my point was/is that it's a lot more intricate than that.
Most people think of sex as determined by DNA, and it turns out, it's not "just" nature, nurture also has a lot to do with it.
My example of the kitten shows how dramatic and lifelong the influence of nurture can be.
In human sexual development there are "many" overlapping critical periods and they're extraordinarily difficult to tease apart.
