1- Mask wearing was to protect others from you, spreading infection to them....once they determined that this virus was spread through Asymptomatic people, who were unaware they were sick, is when mask wearing became the Hail Mary, still popular today.... but know that it was never a cure for the virus, or the Lone Ranger in remediation.. wearing a mask, keeping at least 6 feet apart from any non family humans, Washing hands, avoiding crowds....all those things combined could squash rapid spread...Old misinformation!

And that's the goal....reducing rapid spread of infection, which reduces hospital overloads, and reduces deaths.
A properly fit, n95 mask can protect others from you, and you from others..... but it is a hard mask to come by, and an uncomfortable hard mask to wear for any length of time.
