Tradition was also how early man passed down knowledge. Their only tools for passing down knowledge was orally. Oral traditions were often based on historical events and told through stories which were apart of tradition.

So still pretty important.
 
IF it is true that custom becomes law and the natural law (the start of morality and religion) is purified and clarified through time, one can say that tradition is all important in that whatever builds on it depends on it.
