Well let's get very very basic.Anything?>
Like, open ended, all aspects of life?
Without the first person who killed more then he could eat that exchanged his meat for sexual gratification with a starving female who
exchanged her body to stay alive... she profited.. he profited!
That is the basic premise.
She get's pregnant. HE feeds her and has a son that grows and hunts adding to the profit!
That's how it's been since the beginning!

It's a pretty important point to overlook that simply making an invention and subsequently profiting from it, does not mean that profit was your motive.
Hence the quote in re: to necessity.

You do understand that the NFL is actually a socialist-based system, right?

Well then what's the example of a business with no profit motive that this thread is trying to disparage?
nothing was being disparaged. Just making the point that profit is the reason that 99,9% of businesses exist.
churches and charities do not make a profit, but they must keep income equal to expenses or they will fold.
Just a note... churches and charities GENERALLY don't make or provide any services that they "charge" so where do they get their income?
From people's donations.
Where do people get money to make donations?
Generally from the paycheck or investments.
Generally speaking most people work for businesses that are in business to make a profit.
SO how would churches and charities exist without the donations from people that earned salaries that came from businesses ..making a profit!

Salary is not profit.

Definitely and I believe Christ died for our sins because he loved us so much.. again not altruistically since Christ wants us to accept that fact, i.e. Christ wants something!

Salary is not profit.
The business that pays the salaries needs to make a profit or else they go out of business...DUMMY!
If they business goes out of business there are no salaries. If there are less salaries there are less donations. Less donations means churches and charities might cease!
Sometime, profit IS the improvement. Republicans are blind to everything except money.
Salary is not profit.

My credit union doesn't make a profit and it's not going out of business. My electric co-op doesn't make a profit and it's not going out of business.
Do you even know what a non-profit is? Did you even read your own link?
It's a pretty important point to overlook that simply making an invention and subsequently profiting from it, does not mean that profit was your motive.
Hence the quote in re: to necessity.
You are correct. Thomas Edison has I don't know how many patents and profit was never his objective. Matter of fact, he really didn't like it when people were making a killing off his inventions. Edison just liked to invent stuff. Of course he did become rather wealthy off his inventions.
Ernie Fraze was a tool and die maker in Dayton Ohio. He invented the pop top can. He did it as a challenge and because he kinda stumbled on his method. He didn't set out to make a fortune. But he did anyway.

Zeke, the ignorant toothless stumpbroke of USMB weighs in with his own special ignorance. Edison was one of the biggest self promoters of the 19th/20th century.
