Here is a factoid that is worth keeping in mind. When the proposal was hatched to build a new skyscraper on the site of the WTC disaster on Manhattan island, the PERMITTING took ten (10) years. Not a single shovel of dirt could be moved to advance the construction until every single permit was in place.

The problem of big cities is that city council (and analogous) positions are sought by people who have no business experience, yet want to rule the world. They are pathetic losers who see mankind as an invasive species on earth, and will do anything they can dream of to prevent evil people and corporations from destroying the planet. These perverse aspirations show up in building codes, rules and regulations that make building ANYTHING in a big city dramatically more expensive and time-consuming than it needs to be.

It is bad enough when businesses have to suffer this bullshit, but when private citizens have to deal with it when trying to rebuild their own fukking homes…it makes you want to destroy the whole system and start over again. Which is not possible.

Granted, Malibu and the Palisades are (or were) really nice areas. What I don't understand is how, after pumping millions into a new build, will they get insurance for the property? Newsom has screwed them big time.

After 18 months MOST homes were completely repaired.

Many were complete rebuilds. Those homes that had the eye pass directly over them sustained significant damage.

It was a few years before all homes were basically100% back to normal, but after 18 months nearly everyone was able to at least live inside their homes.

THIS MALIBU AND PACIFIC PALISADES DEBACLE IS THE RESULT OF FAILED GOVERNANCE.

The Pelham Bay Bridge is ancient, they proposed a new one in 2019/2020, building the new one is expected to begin in 2029.

Yep, environmental impact studies that go on for years, plus a handful of people who don't want construction, aka NIMBY folks.

Amtrak began the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review process in 2020; however, work was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Significant work resumed in early 2022.

This project is currently in the environmental review phase, which will be followed by permitting, preliminary design and final design. Construction is estimated to begin in 2029.​

I can nearly guarantee the general contractor and the concrete contractor are in on the corruption, with the city inspector and the building department (paying tribute to the mayor and the governor, of course).
