How do you balance the budget without

Marie Curie was funded by outside sources; in fact, they all were. They did not have the means to support their inventions.

That's my point, guy.
In 2022, the federal government spent about $160bn on R&D. This is about 0.6% of GDP. For comparison, the private sector spent about $673bn on R&D in that year, which is about 2.6% of GDP. In inflation-adjusted terms (pictured below), federal R&D spending has risen substantially since 1953

That is beside my point, Moonie.

Of course, people don't need government funding for scientific discovery; they usually rely on their own resources and personal wealth. That just makes my point.

You sidestepped that question.
Marie Curie's research was funded through a combination of sources, including philanthropy, government grants, and fundraising efforts by American women. Wealthy French benefactors like Henri de Rothschild provided financial support for her scientific staff. Additionally, fundraising efforts in the United States, particularly led by Marie Meloney and the Association of Collegiate Alumnae (ACA), helped to secure radium for her research. In 1929, President Herbert Hoover also presented her with $50,000 donated by American friends of science, again for radium

Sorry, try again. Having a rich benefactor help her does not count as "government funding." It is private sector ingenuity at its finest.

Yeah, so you can't tell me.

Tell that to the Ancient Greeks. The Romans. The Islamic Caliphs of old. The Dynasties of China.

You're the one who rejected the claim, it's your job to disprove it, you lazy-assed leftist.

So, you have nothing. I will stick with government and private funding, and you will forego the government. OK.

Lol.

I had no allowance as a child. I made a lot of discoveries on my own, scientific ones. I didn't need money to foster my curiosity. Nor did Galileo, Einstein, Curie, or the Wright brothers.

You're losing. And you can suck off the government teat all you like, that's your prerogative.

You have no proof. None.
I just posted it, smartass.

I can't help it if the truth is inconvenient for you.

Moonie stated the private sector spent $673 billion on scientific research, which is 5 times more than what the government did in 2022. He literally disproved his and your premise.

So yeah, private sector funding exists, and is superior to government funding, with a few exceptions, like NASA, which wouldn't exist without the civilian private sector funded research of the past.

You posted your opinion. That is not evidence.

We are fortunate to have government and private funding.

I posted examples, evidence, even arguments made by someone on your side.

All of which blew your argument sky high.

We are lucky the private sector took the initiative and brought forth scientific discovery before the advent of government funding.

I despise government shills.

As long as you keep funding DOD and the richies, you will never balance the budget.
DoD is a mandated duty of the Federal Government, per the Constitution.
The "richies" are not and can be trimmed.
It's the various "welfare" for the non-working that is the real killer when trying to balance the budget.
