Well obviously, what is important is the permit. The lease is a damn place holder, nothing more. The lease sure as hell doesn't translate into production, you even admit as much when you use the one out of three figure for Obama and than transfer that to Trump without even bothering to document why that would be the case. Hell, I doubt Trump's signed leases resulted in one out of ten being "successful", and successful is the wrong adjective. No lease is going to result in oil production, until a permit is issued. It is a two step process. You buy the lease, you get the permit, you drill for oil, and then, just maybe, you get lucky and start producing.

See, you would intuitively know this shit if you actually owned land where oil was being produced. First, you get a little bit of money by selling the "lease". It ain't much, because of the risk involved. The oil company still has to get a permit to drill, even on private land, from the state. When they get the permit, well you get a nice little check. And then, if they strike oil, well the royalty checks start rolling in, monthly for every single well.

So the permit is what is important, not the lease.

That is overstated by a factor of at least TWO. Offshore, it amounts to about 15%, on land, it is less than ten, and you can pull your head out of your ass and google it to check me.

My in-laws own more than two dozen oil wells in Texas. That is today's count, that number has doubled since Biden took office. It seems like every couple of months they get that nice "permit check", and the royalties just keep on growing. Times were pretty lean during the Trump administration. No new permits were issued, production from existing wells fell significantly because the demand was not there. Personally, I refuse to take any of their damn oil money. But I got to be honest, I am about sick and tired of my wife, traveling all over the world, eating at the finest restaurants several times a week, and finding packages on the front porch damn near every day.

FACT: The 60 largest commercial and investment banks have collectively financed $3.8 trillion in fossil fuel companies between 2016 and 2020, the five years since the Paris Agreement was signed, according to a report published in March from a collection of climate organizations titled Banking on Climate Chaos 2021.
“Getting lenders to choke off money to fossil fuel companies is the next needed move for the industry to address the material risks that the coal, oil and gas industry faces,” says Leslie Samuelrich, president at investment advisory firm Green Century Capital Management.
