Poor parenting possibly .

Regardless , try not to feel so personally sad/upset that you were born American .
Nobody is trying to weigh you down by asking you to be responsible for the sins of the many .

Stay cheerful and employ a little of the British stiff upper lip .
Aim to be adult not a badly behaved individual .
Being in your eighties is not necessarily being at death's door -- particularly if you can find support .
