The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste - Action Alert

Dear Bryan,

I urge you, in the strongest terms possible,
to tell your

U.S. Representative and Senators today to vote in favor of S. 2590,
the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006!

The House is scheduled to vote TOMORROW
and the Senate will vote in the next few days. We are very
close to victory, but to win, I need you to send an urgent
message to your Representative and Senators that you demand
transparency and accountability in federal spending!

Introduced by Sens. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) and
Barack Obama (D-Ill.), S. 2590, better known as the "Sunshine
Act," would require the full disclosure of all companies and
organizations that receive federal funds by directing the Office of
Management and Budget to create a user-friendly database,
searchable by the public, that would include information
regarding each entity that receives federal funding, the amount
received, how the money is being used, and where the entity is
located.

Letting the sunshine in on the $460 billion in federal grants and $340 billion worth of federal contracts each year will create a more accountable and less wasteful government. With the widespread use of personal
computers and the growth of the Internet, creating such a database is
an idea that's time has come.

Help make government spending more
transparent. Tell your Representative and Senators TODAY to
vote in favor of S. 2590, the Sunshine Act!

Sincerely,

Thomas A. Schatz
President

I find it ironic that such a bill is even introduced in Congress given that many regard the exact information being gathered on terrorist organizations (in much the same manner) as illegal.

This is alittle different. This is the same as a publicly traded company having an audit and showing where every penny they spend went. The government should have been doing this anyway. More visibility means more accountability.

The terrorist information is different. Thats a military matter.

Make no mistake...I am in agreement.
